Job description

Job Title: Coating Technician / Machine Operator

Job Description

The Coating Technician operates, monitors, and maintains coating equipment used in the manufacture of products. In this role, you support production quality, process consistency, equipment performance, and safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate coating, drying, calendaring, slitting, and material handling equipment using control panel machine controls.
  • Prepare and load coating materials, slurries, rollers, and related components according to documented work instructions.
  • Monitor coating quality with extreme attention to detail, including coating thickness down to 0.001 mm, web tension, line speed, oven temperatures, viscosity, and coating weight.
  • Inspect product for defects such as streaks, wrinkles, pinholes, contamination, uneven coating, edge defects, or adhesion issues, and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Perform in-process measurements and quality checks using gauges, microscopes, and other metrology tools to verify adherence to specifications.
  • Assist with machine setup, changeovers, cleaning, and preventive maintenance activities to support reliable and consistent operation.

Essential Skills

  • Machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment, including machine setup and/or changeovers.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated machines in a production setting.
  • Experience owning in-process and finished product quality, rather than only operating equipment while others perform quality checks.
  • Strong attention to detail in monitoring process parameters and product quality.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, scale, and other measuring equipment accurately.
  • General mechanical aptitude, including familiarity with wrenches, hand tools, and basic mechanical assembly and disassembly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, problem-solving, research and development-focused setting.

Why Work Here?

You join a dynamic environment that feels like a startup that's about to TAKE OFF! Processes are still being refined and continuous improvement is part of everyday work, but sales is growing FAST!

You gain tremendous learning and growth opportunities as you help solve real manufacturing challenges in an R&D-stage operation. You work closely with technical and production teams, building valuable hands-on experience with advanced equipment and processes while contributing directly to the development of next-generation technology.

Work Environment

You work in a very clean manufacturing environment designed to meet stringent requirements for production standard for the industry. The facility is temperature controlled to a reasonable level; in warmer areas it may reach around 75 degrees during the summer. You work a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The role requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel-toed shoes, and spending most of the day on your feet while working with industrial machinery and hand tools.
