JOB SUMMARY
Conducts project related activities for the advancement of the Center for Injury Biomechanics (CIB). Develops best practices around process development and supports engineering and manufacturing initiatives to advance biomechanics technologies.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline with two years biomechanics research experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience in an engineering field/industry.
Master's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Highly technical position involving all aspects of biomechanics research related to the core mission of the Wake Forest Center for Injury Biomechanics.
2. Oversees junior engineers and students within the CIB on engineering and simulation related tasks.
3. Uses finite element analysis (FEA) tools and related software to support extramurally funded research, and to generate pilot data for new research.
4. Pre-processes FEA simulations using software such as Hyperworks, LS-Pre Post, and True-grid.
5. Experience using high performance computational clusters, such as the DEAC Cluster at WFU.
6. Analyzes FEA simulation results using software such as Hyperworks or LS-Pre Post.
7. Performs segmentation and other quantitative analysis on medical image data, including CT and MRI.
8. Assists conducting laboratory experiments and data collection including external anthropometry and rapid prototyping studies.
9. Supports the CIB graduate student training mission via occasional lectures related to CAD, FEA, and simulation.
10. Interfaces with sponsors, colleagues, and collaborators at national and international conferences. Participates in regular project update meetings.
11. Assists writing technical reports and manuscripts.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with high rate finite element analysis simulations, extensive pre- and post-processing capabilities
Familiar with high performance computing clusters
Advanced experience with CAD modeling
Works well within a team environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT
