In a temporary accounting role, onboarding and training are often streamlined to get you up to speed quickly. Being proactive in learning and asking clarifying questions helps you integrate efficiently and contribute effectively from the start.

What is temporary accounting?

Temporary accounting refers to accounting positions that are filled for a limited period, often to cover staff absences, manage busy periods, or complete specific projects. These roles can range from entry-level bookkeeping to specialized accounting functions. Temporary accountants perform many of the same duties as permanent staff, such as preparing financial statements, managing accounts payable and receivable, and assisting with audits. Hiring temporary accounting professionals allows businesses to maintain accurate financial records without committing to long-term employment. It can also provide accountants with diverse work experiences and networking opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temporary Accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Accountant, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, experience with financial reporting, and often a degree in accounting or related field. Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Excel is typically required, and certifications like CPA can be advantageous. Strong attention to detail, adaptability, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are essential to quickly integrate into new teams, ensure accurate financial records, and maintain compliance during short-term assignments.

Job description

Accounting Clerk (Billing & AP)

$50,000 – $55,000 | Full-Time (40 hrs./week)

If you’re the kind of person who loves a clean spreadsheet, catches tiny errors others miss, and gets real satisfaction from balancing numbers—this one’s for you.

We’re looking for a detail-driven Accounting Clerk to support our Controller with billing, accounts payable, and keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

What You’ll Be Doing

Client Billing Support (Your Main Focus)

  • Keep billing cycles organized and accurate using Excel
  • Update and maintain billing schedules (WIP, billed, and “to be billed”)
  • Reconcile data across spreadsheets and invoice drafts
  • Upload final billing data into ERP system
  • Finalize invoices in our system
  • Gather supporting documentation (vendor invoices, T&E reports, etc.)
  • Track progress across ~50 invoices per month (some simple, some complex)

This role requires focus, precision, and the ability to double-check your work like a pro

Accounts Payable (Own It!)

  • Manage full-cycle AP process
  • Work with Project Managers to code invoices correctly
  • Coordinate with the Controller on check runs

Additional Support

  • Research and resolve vendor payment questions
  • Assist with client billing inquiries
  • Organize and maintain historical records
  • Jump in where needed, a team player.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong Excel skills (you’re comfortable building and updating schedules)
  • Highly detail-oriented (you catch what others miss)
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks/deadlines
  • Comfortable following structured processes and internal controls
  • Reliable, professional, and responsive
  • Takes good notes—and actually uses them

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Stable, full-time opportunity with consistent hours
  • Mix of independent work + team collaboration
  • Great role for someone who enjoys structured accounting processes
  • Opportunity to build strong experience in billing + AP

The Ideal Candidate

You’re someone who:

  • Enjoys working with numbers and systems
  • Takes pride in accuracy and organization
  • Doesn’t rush—you get it right
  • Can stay focused through detailed, repetitive tasks

Ready to bring your precision and Excel skills to a team that values it? Apply today!
