Radiology Technologist

Position Summary: Operates all radiographic/fluoroscopic equipment (including portables) located in the main department, ER/Radiology and O.R., for the purposes of performing diagnostic exams according to physician orders. Ensures the efficient flow of patients to maximize throughout. Ensures complete and accurate data entry and in the EMR and PACS systems.

Responsibilities
  • Performs all general radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures according to department procedure manual and established protocols.
  • Performs surgical and portable examinations requiring moving of motor driven, 1,000 portable radiographic, and 500 lb non-motorized C-arm to various patient locations, via elevators, if necessary.
  • Confirms patient identification by verbal communication and visual ID band inspection as stated in Imaging Services Policy.
  • Always demonstrates respect for patient modesty. Personal habits, behavior, and communications are appropriate to promote interactions necessary for departmental and interdepartmental efficiency and good guest/patient relations.
  • Prepares and/or administers contrast media, i.e. IV, orally, or rectally.
  • Monitors and observes any abnormal changes in patients color, respiration, heart rate, and responsiveness. Responds appropriately to emergency situations, administers first aid/CPR as needed.
  • Daily, maintains emergency equipment in the room (to include O2, suction; sphygmomanometer; stethoscope; Benadryl; Adrenalin; Epinephrine 1:1,000 and 1:10,000) to insure availability as per departmental policy.
  • On daily basis, checks integrity of emergency tray and sterile solutions located in exam room. Completes checklist of medications and initials appropriate area.
  • Interviews patients for history pertaining to radiographic exam. This history is to include unusual condition/limitations and other pertinent information as well as the LMP; this must be entered in Epic in the appropriate fields.
  • Completes all applicable data entry, entering/editing exam when necessary. Accurately completes the documentation in Epic per department protocol. Radiology Technologist (Registered), General Diagnostic
  • Responds to changes in the work schedule as necessary and demonstrates flexibility and willingness to stay late and rotate shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Provides radiation protection to patient, staff, and self according to prescribed radiation safety standards. Radiation protection provided: lead aprons (9.25 lbs), lead gloves (2 lbs), and lead glasses (2.5 oz.). Handles radiation monitoring film badge according to established protocols.
  • Prepare patients for procedures according to established Imaging Services Department protocols. Explains procedure to be performed to facilitate cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety.
  • Verifies accuracy of radiology order, prior to exam, by checking physicians order in patients chart or prescription. Verbal verification from physicians may be necessary if orders are not clear.
  • Scans paper documents per departmental protocol.
  • Visually reviews image data in the PACS for proper positioning, technique, identification, and correct placement of right (R) and left (L) lead markers. Ensures exam completeness and accuracy of data before sending images to the PACS.
  • Resolves image exceptions in the PACS system.
  • Accesses hospital information system, to enter Laboratory orders or retrieve Laboratory results.
Qualifications

Requires completion of an AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, which normally is acquired in a two-year college or technical school program.

ARRT certified with current registration required.

CPR certification preferred

EPIC experience preferred

6 months of Diagnostic radiology experience required.
