Job description

Description *** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave)

Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees. Title: (CASUAL) Paieie Uluakea Facilitator Hiring Unit: Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center Position: *** Casual Hire *** Location: UH Hilo Date Posted: June 25, 2026 Closing Date: July 2, 2026 Salary: $51/hour Full time/Part time: Full-time (40 hours/week) Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin on July 2026 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days.

Duties: Under the general supervision of the Kipuka Native Hawaiian Student Center, plan, and coordinate Title III Paieie Activity 3 initiatives for the University of Hawai'I at Hilo (UH Hilo) and Hawai'I Community College (HCC) faculty. Develop Hawaii-focused curriculum and professional development opportunities for faculty at UHH and HCC campuses. Plan, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of all Title III Paieie Activity 3 initiatives for the University of Hawaii at Hilo (UHH) and Hawaii Community College (HCC) faculty.

Organize, conduct, and evaluate faculty research workshops and academic presentations. Monitor, collect data, and evaluate the engagement and participation of students, administrators, faculty, and staff, and maintain written and electronic implementation on programs and activities. Work in multiple work settings and maintain a variable work schedule including nights, weekends, and/or holiday hours, as directed or required.

Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field from an accredited university and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for developing Hawaii-focused curriculum; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indications. Experience in developing and teaching Hawaii-focused curriculum.

Demonstrated knowledge of UH Hilo programs and services. Previous experience working in a higher education institution. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated. Desirable Qualifications Fluency in Hawaiian language Possession of Master's degree in any field from an accredited university.
