Position Overview

The College of Arts and Sciences offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees, Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees, Master's degrees, and specialized undergraduate certificate programs. The Department of Administration of Justice at University of Hawaii at Hilo invites applications for the position of Instructor of Administration of Justice. This Instructor position is responsible for teaching a wide range of AJ courses in the area of criminal justice each semester based on department needs as well as assisting with student events and co-curricular activities in the AJ department.
The Department of Administration of Justice offers a BA in Administration of Justice (AJ) that includes a fully online Law Enforcement Cohort Track specifically designed for law enforcement officers, and the department also offers a Criminal Justice (CJ) certificate. The mission of the Department of Administration of Justice is to prepare students to be innovative leaders in law enforcement, courts and corrections, criminal justice administration, homeland security, and justice advocacy; qualify our majors for acceptance to top-notch graduate programs and law schools; and support the community through engaged scholarship and service. Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Teach undergraduate courses, including Intro to Administration of Justice, Crime and Society, Criminal Justice, Policing and Punishment, Criminal Law and Procedure, Public Policy Analysis, Advocacy and Criminal Justice, Public Leadership & Ethics, and other upper division AJ courses as needed.
  2. Hold weekly on-campus office hours.
  3. Assist with student events and co-curricular activities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related social science discipline.
  2. Demonstrated expertise in the field of criminal justice.
  3. Successful teaching at the university level in both online and face-to-face instruction.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related social science discipline.
  2. A proven track record of effective course instruction in lower and upper-division criminal justice courses at the university level.
  3. Experience teaching in a multi-cultural setting.
  4. Applied experience in law enforcement.
