Job Summary

The Junior Telecommunications Engineer develops the technical designs, engineering documentation, and project deliverables that support SecureVision's telecommunications construction and installation projects throughout the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast. Reporting to the Director of Construction Services, this position prepares scopes of work, bills of materials (BOMs), cost analyses, network layouts, and installation documentation for new customer properties, infrastructure upgrades, and expansion projects. The Junior Telecommunications Engineer collaborates with Engineering, Construction, Sales, and Operations to ensure projects are accurately designed, cost-effective, and ready for successful execution.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop engineering designs and construction documentation for telecommunications infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare detailed scopes of work, engineering drawings, installation layouts, and technical documentation for new property deployments and system upgrades.
  • Create rack elevations, equipment layouts, structured cabling diagrams, fiber distribution diagrams, and customer premise installation drawings.
  • Design infrastructure utilizing drafting and diagramming software, including Lucidchart and other engineering design platforms.
  • Project Planning & Cost Analysis:
    • Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) for construction and installation projects.
    • Perform project cost analyses to support budgeting, estimating, and project planning.
    • Coordinate material requirements with warehouse, purchasing, and project management teams.
    • Review engineering requirements to ensure project feasibility and installation efficiency.
  • Project Coordination:
    • Collaborate with Construction, Sales, Field Engineering, and Operations throughout project planning and execution.
    • Participate in customer meetings, project planning sessions, and internal design reviews as needed.
    • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide technical clarification during project execution.
    • Assist with field verification visits to validate existing infrastructure and support project design accuracy.
  • Documentation & Quality Assurance:
    • Maintain accurate engineering drawings, revision histories, and as-built documentation.
    • Review engineering packages for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with SecureVision standards.
    • Maintain engineering templates, design standards, and documentation processes.
    • Recommend design improvements that increase installation efficiency, scalability, and long-term network reliability.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Construction Services to prioritize engineering workloads and project schedules.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by developing standardized engineering practices and documentation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Construction Services.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, fiber optic systems, structured cabling, IPTV, internet, voice, wireless networking, and low-voltage systems.
  • Ability to prepare engineering drawings, installation diagrams, rack elevations, and network documentation.
  • Experience developing Bills of Materials (BOMs), project scopes, and cost estimates.
  • Proficiency with Lucidchart, Microsoft Visio, AutoCAD, or similar engineering and drafting software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities with the ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn additional engineering and project management software.
Education and Experience
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Drafting, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of technical education and telecommunications engineering experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of telecommunications engineering, drafting, network design, or construction planning experience preferred.
  • Experience preparing construction drawings, Bills of Materials, cost analyses, and engineering documentation preferred.
  • Experience supporting MDU, hospitality, commercial, or fiber deployment projects is highly desirable.
  • Primarily office-based position supporting engineering and construction projects throughout the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast.
  • Occasional travel to customer properties and construction sites for project verification, design reviews, and engineering support.
  • Frequently sit for extended periods while preparing engineering documentation and working on a computer.
  • Occasionally lift and carry equipment, drawings, or materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Extended hours may occasionally be required to support project deadlines, customer commitments, or construction schedules.
  • This is an exempt position and is expected to work the hours necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
