Job description

Job Summary:

Supervises the operation, installation and maintenance of telecommunications central office switching systems, outside plant facilities, voice, video, data equipment/services and other associated telecommunications and computer equipment. Drives capital projects and ensures on time completion. Also serves as the liaison between the Company, subscribers and external entities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coordinate and perform tasks associated with the engineering, installation, preventive and maintenance activities related to all Internet systems, central office equipment, wireless, microwave and fiber optic transmission facilities, and plant facilities.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with management, staff, customers, and external entities (i.e. State, County, and City Officials, Community Organizations, etc.)
  • Supervises personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Responsible for employee development, which includes cross training, motivation, and performance evaluations.
  • Assists with budgeting and planning processes.
  • Ensures all policies and approved methods are followed and used uniformly by all contractors.
  • Prepares, reviews, and maintains various documents such as invoicing, forms, central office records, network records, inventory control, and other reports as needed.
  • Oversees the buildings and grounds; (i.e. HVAC, generators, janitorial staff, landscaping, miscellaneous maintenance and etc.)
  • Promotes and adheres to all safety policies and procedures, ensures staff has necessary licenses and certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics, computer technology, information systems, or a related field.
  • 5 years’ experience in the telecom industry, with a minimum of 2 years in a successful supervisory capacity.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to establish business and financial justifications for marketing initiatives.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative, uses tact and diplomacy.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • The successful candidate must have the initiative to resolve problems and seek answers independently and enthusiastically persist until goals are achieved.
  • The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge in telecommunications operations and at least a working knowledge of business office practices, customer service, outside plant, central office, IT / networking, and engineering practices and principles.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings (Drug and Background), as well as Random Selections.
