Job Description:

Semper Valens Solutions is looking for a Telecommunications/Electronics Technician to organize and lead telecommunications installations on the Customer site. The Telecommunications/Electronics Technician will perform site surveys and document current site telecommunications configuration and user requirements.

The Technician will design and optimize telecommunications topologies, direct and lead development of engineering installation packages and project drawings, and develop equipment and system test plans. The Technician will be responsible for the development of the on-site installation schedules, mobilization of the telecommunications installation team, and will direct and lead documentation of the configuration changes at each site.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform surveys and assessments in accordance with the requirements for survey and design of LAN/WLAN upgrades identified in the latest design plan.
  • Perform pre-survey tasks to include:
    • Participate in the Same Page pre-deployment for Survey and Pre-Deployment Site Survey meetings.
    • Ensure personnel have the appropriate hard and soft copy drawings and programs to view, print and modify the drawings as needed.
    • Review all site-specific documentation including the historic site documentation.
  • Submit a Daily Site Survey Report to accurately reflect survey activities.
  • Complete an Outbuildings Connectivity (OBC) Spider Diagram Drawing.
  • Survey the WLAN devices, infrastructure and radio frequency (RF) signatures. Includes using AirMagnet Survey Pro and predictive heat mapping.
  • Heat map the location and use the information for the preliminary prediction of AM placements for all locations requiring new WLAN AM placements
  • Perform fiber/copper cable testing during the survey.
  • Utilize fiber cleaning pens on the fiber before testing and report fiber and copper cable test results.
  • Ensure clear and readable pictures in accordance with the Digital Picture.
  • Collect, verify, and organize all network configurations for both LAN and WLAN.
  • Physically inspect each proposed cable pathway for any new proposed LAN Work Area Outlet (WAO) or AP/AM outlets. The Technician shall document the type of penetration required and the composition and fire-rating of the physical wall/ceiling/floor to be penetrated.
  • Survey and inspect all CMR/SEA communications rooms and associated infrastructure for proper grounding and bonding in accordance with the latest version of the DHA TR&G.
  • Ensure all CMR/SEA cabinets, equipment racks, ladder rack, cable trays/baskets, and/or backbone conduits are properly bonded to the Primary Bonding Busbar (PBB) or Secondary Bonding Busbar (SBB).
  • Survey all power receptacle types, plug types, power distribution units (PDUs) and UPS systems supporting LAN/WLAN equipment. UPS make/model, size, age, current power load (percentage), serviceability, network monitoring capability, bonding/grounding and battery capacities shall be captured during the survey process.
  • Complete survey close-out activities after all survey activities and prior to the scheduled onsite out brief. Will require remaining onsite until Customer acceptance of close-out activities.

Education/Experience:

  • Must have 2 years of telecommunications /electronics vocational training or professional certification from an ABET accredited technical school or equivalent military school and 5 years' experience in two or more of the specialties identified. A substitution for training may be applied with 10 years of experience in two or more of these specialties.
  • Familiarity with the following technologies is required: Cisco, Juniper, or Ruckus, switches, wireless LAN controllers, and wireless access points/air monitors connected with CAT 5e/6 copper or single/multimode fiber. Additional equipment includes PDUs and UPS's.
  • IT/ADP Level I or IT/ADP Level II.
  • Proficient at trouble-shooting problems with telecommunications equipment to include system interfaces and power/ground issues.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and activating circuits and preparing test reports.
  • Proficient in using common test equipment (e.g. digital and Ethernet test sets, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters/analyzers).
  • Proficient in testing communications and power equipment/systems and following standard test procedures.
  • Experience performing surveys and assessments in accordance with requirement for LAN/WLAN design upgrades.
  • Experience performing pre-survey tasks.
  • Willing to travel in performance of required work responsibilities.

Clearance:

  • DoD Secret Clearance required based on Tier III investigation.
