Job description

Drafter / CAD Technician
ActoNet is seeking a Drafter / Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) Technician to support a Department of War Laboratory Revitalization Assessment and Installation Design Plan (IDP) development effort. This role is responsible for producing high-quality, SIPH-compliant Installation Design Plan drawings for each laboratory space based on validated field data and engineering direction.
The Drafter works closely with the Project Manager and Systems Engineer/Subject Matter Expert (SME) to translate survey results, system inventories, and engineering analyses into accurate, configuration-controlled design packages. This position plays a key role in documenting existing conditions and proposed infrastructure layouts to support DoW revitalization and transition planning for the future headquarters facility..
This position may perform work on-site and/or remotely, with on-site coordination required during survey and validation phases as needed.
Target Salary - $90,000 or $44/hr
Responsibilities
  • Develops SIPH-compliant Installation Design Plan (IDP) drawing packages for each laboratory space, incorporating layouts, LAN diagrams, RF and antenna diagrams, antenna platform drawings, and supporting details.
  • Produces 30%, 60%, and 100% IDP drawing sets in accordance with project milestones and Government review requirements.
  • Incorporates field survey data, redlines, photographs, and engineering guidance into accurate as-found and design drawings.
  • Updates and revises drawings based on Systems Engineer/SME direction and Government comments, maintaining strict configuration control.
  • Supports development of laboratory layouts showing equipment placement, rack configurations, power interfaces, and connectivity paths.
  • Assists with preparation of drawing legends, notes, symbols, and layer standards to ensure consistency across all IDP packages.
  • Participates in QA/QC reviews to verify drawing accuracy, completeness, and alignment with supporting technical documentation.
  • Supports comment resolution by clearly identifying and addressing Government review comments within revised drawing packages.
Required Qualifications
  • Active DoW Secret Clearance
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in drafting, CAD, engineering technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience producing technical drawings for DoD or federal engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated experience developing SIPH-compliant drawings and documentation is required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
  • Ability to interpret field data, redlines, and engineering direction to produce accurate design drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple drawing packages concurrently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting DoD facilities, laboratories, or technical infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with Installation Design Plans (IDPs), as-built drawings, and configuration-controlled engineering deliverables.
  • Experience developing LAN, RF, and antenna-related drawings.
  • Knowledge of Navy laboratory environments, infrastructure standards, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to work closely with engineers and technicians during survey-driven design efforts.
