Job description

Position Summary:
The Chemical Technician plays a key role in the safe and efficient manufacture of advanced polymer resins and compounds used in aerospace composite materials. This hands-on position is responsible for producing production batches, operating process equipment, performing quality control testing, and maintaining accurate production records. The role also supports equipment maintenance, material handling, packaging, and housekeeping activities while ensuring compliance with quality, environmental, and safety standards. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 
Essential Functions:
  • Manufacture polymer resins and compounds by accurately weighing, measuring, and adding raw materials according to approved manufacturing instructions and formulations.
  • Operate a variety of production and processing equipment, including reactors, mixers, grinders, ovens, and milling equipment, in accordance with established procedures and safety requirements.
  • Read, understand, and follow detailed work instructions, specifications, and standard operating procedures while completing all required production documentation accurately and timely.
  • Perform in-process and final quality control checks, including measurements, weights, and other testing activities to ensure product conformance.
  • Prepare, package, label, and store finished products and raw materials in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect incoming raw materials and verify compliance with quality standards prior to use in production.
  • Maintain accurate records related to production activities, solvent usage, waste management, inventory, and quality control processes.
  • Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on production equipment to ensure operational readiness and efficiency.
  • Clean and decontaminate production equipment and work areas following each production run while maintaining a clean, organized, and 6S-compliant work environment.
  • Manage solvents and waste materials, including proper handling, storage, disposal, and recordkeeping, in accordance with environmental, safety, and company requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits related to quality management systems and regulatory compliance.
  • Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) and perform all work in compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and support changing production priorities to meet customer and business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year of experience in a manufacturing, production, laboratory, chemical processing, or related technical environment preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with chemicals, resins, composites, adhesives, coatings, or similar materials.
  • Experience operating industrial processing, mixing, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with quality systems, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO standards, or regulated manufacturing environments.
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including weights, measurements, and batch calculations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and basic computer systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately follow written instructions and procedures.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of the position.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, chemical splash goggles, and protective gloves.

Compensation:

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate manufacturing equipment, tools, computers, and laboratory testing instruments.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety glasses, chemical splash goggles, gloves, dust masks, and respirators.
  • Must be able to safely navigate production and warehouse environments and work around moving equipment.
  • Ability to visually inspect materials, equipment, labels, and documentation and distinguish colors when necessary for production and quality processes.

Work Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and laboratory environment.
  • Regular exposure to chemicals, resins, solvents, dust, fumes, odors, and industrial equipment.
  • May be exposed to varying temperatures, noise levels, and other conditions typical of a manufacturing operation.
  • Requires strict adherence to safety procedures, environmental requirements, and quality standards.
  • Employees are expected to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company housekeeping and 6S standards.
