Elementary School Gifted Teacher

  • Must have one or more of the following: TN Endorsement 001, 101 120, 401, 402, or 499 AND
    Tennessee Employment Standard as Teacher of the Gif ted or Endorsement Code: 466

    Immediate Supervisor: Supervisor of Gifted Education and Principal


    POSITION DESCRIPTION:

    • The Gifted Education Facilitator will provide instructional and support services to eligible Intellectually Gifted students whose intellectual abilities and potential for achievement are determined to be so outstanding that special provisions are required to meet their educational needs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Assume full responsibility for compliance with expectations of the Supervisor and Principal, maintaining current licensure and endorsements, and completing in-service as required for employment with Rutherford County Schools.
    • Conduct special education tasks for gifted students according to IDEA procedural guidelines.
    • Provide services to eligible intellectually gifted students as specified in each student's IEP.
    • Initiate and manage referrals of students.
    • Participate in screenings and eligibility determination meetings for referred students.
    • Schedule and chair annual IEP meetings for all eligible students.
    • Complete and send special education progress reports to parents at the end of each grading period.
    • Consult with and make recommendations to general education teachers about instructional or other special needs of eligible students.
    • Maintain IEP and Evaluation Records in compliance with state and federal laws.
    • Participate in Child-Find strategies to systematically identify and serve eligible students.
    • Attend Gifted Education Department staff meetings as scheduled by Supervisor.
    • Participate in the Professional Learning Communities established within the Gifted Education department and the assigned "home" school.
    • Demonstrate professional growth in gifted education through
      • participation in professional development workshops and/or conferences
      • reading related professional literature
      • sharing your knowledge about gifted students and their education with parents and teachers in your school(s) through presentations, newsletters, website, or other appropriate methods
    • Report to all assignments promptly and as scheduled
    • Prepare and submit lesson plans as directed.
    • Submit all paperwork as requested.
    • Create and keep current a web page at each assigned school.
    • Ensure that parents of students are informed about general class activities and other related opportunities through regular email correspondence occurring no less than once per grading period.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Hold an endorsement in appropriate general education area AND
    • Must have or agree to obtain TN Gifted Endorsement 466
    • Have knowledge of and ability to apply all pertinent State and Local regulations, policies and procedures regarding the assessment, identification, placement, and provision of appropriate services to eligible Intellectually Gifted students.
    • Have ability to facilitate group discussions, creative problem solving and critical thinking activities.
    • Have strong interpersonal skills that facilitate cooperative and effective work with a wide range of people (i.e., students, school administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and other professionals in the school and community.)
    • Have strong written and verbal presentation skills.
    • Meet all health, physical and background-check requirements.

    • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of State and Local policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
