Job description

Who We Are:

SmithRx is a rapidly growing, venture-backed Health-Tech company. Our mission is to disrupt the expensive and inefficient Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) sector by building a next-generation drug acquisition platform driven by cutting edge technology, innovative cost saving tools, and best-in-class customer service. With hundreds of thousands of members onboarded since 2016, SmithRx has a solution that is resonating with clients all across the country.

We pride ourselves for our mission-driven and collaborative culture that inspires our employees to do their best work. We believe that the U.S healthcare system is in need of transformation, and we come to work each day dedicated to making that change a reality. At our core, we are guided by our company values:

  • Integrity: Our purpose guides our actions and gives us confidence in the path ahead. With unwavering honesty and dependability, we embrace the pressure of challenging the old and exemplify ethical leadership to create the new.
  • Courage: We face continuous challenges with grit and resilience. We embrace the discomfort of the unknown by balancing autonomy with empathy, and ownership with vulnerability. We boldly challenge the status quo to keep moving forward—always.
  • Together: The success of SmithRx reflects the strength of our partnerships and the commitment of our team. Our shared values bind us together and make us one. When one falls, we all fall; when one rises, we all rise.

Job Summary:

As the Director of Project Management, you will be the primary architect of SmithRx's Operational Operating System. This is not a traditional "admin" PMO role; we are looking for a systems-thinking leader who can bridge the gap between complex roadmaps and executive-level strategic outcomes. You will evolve the Project Management function into a high-maturity, directive function that drives decision durability and portfolio integrity across the entire enterprise.

You will design the governance frameworks that allow SmithRx to scale, leveraging Stage-Gate methodologies to ensure our most ambitious initiatives and migrations maintain the deterministic rigor required for healthcare and financial transactions. You will be the guardian of "invisible work," advocating for operational stability and technical debt remediation as first-class citizens in our portfolio.

We need a leader who is versatile and driven, capable of translating 50+ concurrent workstreams into a singular, actionable executive narrative. You will display extreme ownership, identifying "information dark spots" and eliminating delivery bottlenecks before they impact our members. At SmithRx, you won't just track the roadmap; you will build the engine that executes it.

What you will do:

1. Governance & Stage-Gate Leadership

  • Own the Lifecycle: Define and enforce a unified Stage-Gate process (e.g., Intake → Discovery → Alignment → Execution → Post-Launch).
  • Gatekeeping: Ensure clear entry/exit criteria and decision frameworks at each gate to minimize "scope churn" and rework.
  • Strategic Mapping: Ensure every project in the portfolio is accurately mapped to Company OKRs with a robust risk mitigation plan.
  • Trade-off Analysis: Surface critical trade-offs regarding cost, timing, and complexity to enable senior leadership to make high-durability decisions.
2. Portfolio Visibility & Executive Insights
  • Master Portfolio Ownership: Maintain 100% data integrity across all initiatives, providing a "single source of truth."
  • Executive Storytelling: Translate data from 50+ concurrent workstreams into bi-weekly, high-intensity ELT reports that facilitate rapid decision-making.
  • Automation & ROI: Partner with Finance and Data Analytics to transition manual tracking into real-time, automated visualization tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira, or Atlas).
3. Leadership & Capability Building
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor a team of project managers, establishing a culture of "Extreme Ownership" and execution excellence.
  • Cross-Functional Training: Train Product, Engineering, and Operations teams on effective project management discipline and Stage-Gate rigors.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead retrospectives to identify "information dark spots" and delivery bottlenecks, driving lean improvements across the organization.
4. Execution Excellence
  • Improve predictability, speed, and quality of project delivery
  • Drive accountability across teams for timelines, deliverables, and outcomes
  • Lead retrospectives and continuous improvement efforts
  • Optimize tools (e.g., Smartsheet) to support scalable execution

What you will bring to SmithRx:

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of project management experience, with significant experience in Directive or Enterprise PMO (EPMO) environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading innovation pipelines and stage gate processes
  • Experience operating in ambiguous, fast-changing environments with shifting priorities
  • Proven ability to drive cross-functional alignment and decision-making without direct authority
  • Strong ability to translate complexity into clear, actionable insights for leadership
  • Experience building or scaling PMO functions and improving organizational capability
  • Expertise in project management tools
  • Lean / Continuous Improvement experience (preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with async reporting models to reduce meeting overhead.
  • Familiarity with healthcare-specific OKRs and operational excellence (OpEx)

What SmithRx Offers You:

  • Highly competitive wellness benefits including Medical, Pharmacy, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance and AD&D Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Benefits
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings Program
  • Short-term and long-term disability
  • Discretionary Paid Time Off
  • Paid Company Holidays
  • Wellness Benefits
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Paid Parental Leave benefits
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Well-stocked kitchen in office locations
  • Professional development and training opportunities
