Job description

VP of Technology – Head Architect, TurboTax

Category: Software Engineering, Executive; Location: Mountain View, California; Job ID: 15564

Company Overview

Intuit is the global financial technology platform that powers prosperity for the people and communities we serve. With approximately 100 million customers worldwide using products such as TurboTax, Credit Karma, QuickBooks, and Mailchimp, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to prosper. We never stop working to find new, innovative ways to make that possible.

Job Overview

We are the largest provider of tax preparation software and services with TurboTax serving ~35 M households and over 140 M members trusting Credit Karma with their financial profile. We’re searching for an experienced, innovative VP of Technology (Engineering) leader — a Head Architect — who has deep SaaS experience delivering new products and experiences to the market that will be loved by millions of users. In this role, the leader will lead the Consumer Platform that enables Intuit to power the prosperity of consumers by serving their needs at various points in their financial journey, from tax to credit to saving on expenses to access to money and growing wealth. The Consumer Platform, oriented around the pillars of Tax, Personal Finance, and Money, will focus on helping consumers lift the burden of tax prep with AI and assisted tax prep and lay the foundation to create a year‑round relationship centered on money benefits, financial products, and financial guidance. The platform is powered by world‑class Tax (TurboTax and ProTax) and Credit Karma capabilities. This leader will propel a high‑performing team to its next phase of growth and will rely on their business acumen, strategic thinking, hands‑on technical/coding experience, AI proficiency and experience, and data skills to drive customer and business outcomes at scale. They will be comfortable making decisions with imperfect information, balancing precision with speed, and will guide and inspire the team, attract and develop top talent, and serve as both a business leader and technology leader.

What you’ll do here:

  • Lead architecture for the Consumer Platform as Head Architect – Vice President, Technology. You will report to the SVP of Engineering and bring a passion for solving end‑to‑end problems for developers and customers.
  • As a hands‑on technical leader, you will own and drive the overall architecture for the Consumer Platform, translating business strategy into a durable technology strategy with deep focus and ownership of Tax Platform capabilities. You will partner with business leadership, Tax and Credit Karma PD teams, functional teams and the broader Intuit TechEcosystem.
  • Serve as a talent steward for Distinguished Engineers and Principal Engineers, defining focus areas in partnership with PD leadership and coaching them.
Responsibilities
  • Technology Strategy and Architecture for Consumer Platform
    • Define and drive the technology strategy for Consumer Platform by partnering with Business Leadership and the broader Intuit TechEcosystem to accelerate business growth aspirations.
    • Ensure technical governance of technologies, evaluate solution designs for feasibility, alignment with business objectives, and incorporate critical non‑functional requirements.
    • Use, integrate, identify gaps and propose solutions across all technology assets in the company to ensure a cohesive platform and emphasize the development of AI‑native solutions leveraging AI to deliver customer benefit.
  • Boundaryless Collaboration
    • Operate in a complex organizational structure and collaborate with multiple stakeholders globally.
    • Partner with business and technology teams to prioritize roadmaps and requirements, balancing business needs with financial and technology constraints.
    • Establish alignment of vision, strategy & delivery with cross‑functional teams (PM, PD, XD, Care…) and senior leaders across geographies.
  • Operational & Engineering Excellence
    • Establish and improve engineering and operational excellence efforts across the Consumer Platform, driving a productive environment for developers and high availability for customers.
    • Set clear objectives, enable the team to deliver, and use operating mechanisms to continually assess progress and improve.
    • Foster an engineering culture within the team and across organizations.
  • Build a high‑performance culture
    • Grow and coach engineering talent and act as a talent magnet to attract, nurture and retain senior talent, including Engineering Directors, managers, engineers, and architects.
    • Develop and drive hiring strategy to mobilize talent for the organization.
  • Speed as a Habit
    • Operate in a fast‑moving environment, make quick data‑driven customer‑backed decisions, and execute fiercely to deliver outcomes.
  • Customer Obsession
    • Advocate for developers and customers, staying close to customer problems and solving for them with urgency.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of product and platform development experience with BS/MS in computer science or equivalent.
  • 3+ years in a leadership, managing and coaching globally distributed teams and influencing third‑party technology strategy.
  • Demonstrated outstanding craft delivering SaaS at scale.
  • Experience in developing full‑stack applications across architecture, services, applications, data, analytics, AI and marketing technologies.
  • Ability to deliver customer outcomes with AI and data‑powered experiences.
  • Track record of developing high‑performing organizations and collaborating across multiple organizations.
  • Operates with high‑level objectives and delivers with velocity.
