Job description

Join the MEPPI Team!

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) is seeking a Design Engineer I with a mechanical engineering degree to perform engineering activities for the design, manufacture, assembly, test, installation, and servicing of High Voltage Switchgear Division (HVSD) products.

This position will report to the HVSD Design Engineering Manager and is an onsite position in Warrendale, PA.

What Youll Do:

  • Perform engineering activities that support the design, manufacture and assembly of new HVSD products and the advancement of existing circuit breaker products.
  • Develop, prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and design drawings.
  • Create and maintain purchasing specifications for all circuit breaker components. Participate in vendor qualification.
  • Review customer specifications, provide and approve special customer design options, and create and deliver technical customer presentations.
  • Prepare, issue and maintain breaker Instruction Books (IBs) for assigned circuit breakers.
  • Supervise the preparation of all drawings required to support order placements, manufacturing/assembly operations, and customer software needs.
  • Lead root cause evaluations of Category I failures or other defects as assigned and participate with HVSD Manufacturing and Quality to resolve production-related issues.
  • Recommend and implement design improvements and cost reductions.
  • Further the goals and positive, professional image of the HVSD through interaction with other MEPPI departments and vendors.

What Youll Bring:

  • Mechanical Engineering with 0-2 years of experience in a design engineering capacity, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of circuit breaker technology, design and power transmission.
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers, employees and suppliers.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to read, understand and create technical drawings and material.
  • Advanced analytical and problems solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, with emphasis on Microsoft Office products, CAD software, and ERP/MRP systems.
