Job description

Saalex is seeking an Engineering Technician, III in Ridgecrest, CA (China Lake). to provide technical support for the assembly, integration, testing, operation, maintenance, and sustainment of small weaponized Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). This position performs complex technical tasks with minimal supervision and serves as a key contributor supporting prototype development, system readiness activities, flight test operations, and engineering evaluations. The Engineering Technician III works closely with government engineers, program personnel, and other technicians to ensure successful execution of developmental and operational test objectives.

Position Type: Full-time

Salary: $24.17-$29.94 per hour

Work Location: Fully onsite

Essential Functions:

  • Assemble, integrate, modify, operate, maintain, and repair small weaponized UAS systems and associated equipment.
  • Support prototype development, system upgrades, and engineering modification efforts.
  • Perform system inspections, troubleshooting, testing, and operational readiness evaluations.
  • Support flight demonstrations, developmental testing, data collection, and engineering evaluations.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical documentation, and work instructions.
  • Document maintenance actions, test results, technical findings, and configuration changes.
  • Coordinate with engineers, government personnel, and program teams to support mission objectives.
  • Mentor junior technicians and provide technical guidance as required.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Required:

  • Experience assembling, integrating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience supporting testing, integration, prototype development, or engineering activities.
  • Experience identifying and resolving system deficiencies and documenting corrective actions.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to travel in support of military test events.

Desired:

  • Experience supporting UAS, aerospace, aviation, defense, or weapons systems programs.
  • Experience with soldering, electronic assembly, fabrication, or prototype development.
  • Experience supporting developmental test, operational test, or flight test activities.
  • Prior military aviation, maintenance, or UAS experience.
  • Experience mentoring junior technicians.

Education/Years of Experience:

Associates degree OR HS Diploma or GED required and 2 years of experience required.

Security Clearance:

Active Secret or Interim Secret clearance required. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
