Job Type: Full-Time

Target Salary Range*: $100,000 - $120,000.

*This represents the potential salary range for this position depending on education level, years of experience and/or certifications in addition to other position specific requirements which may impact salary

Position Overview:

For this Technical Writer position, you will be responsible for producing, proof-reading, editing, and formatting technical documentation to include design specifications, manuals, on-line help, procedures, plans, and proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit and format information for consumption through various media channels to include printed materials, scripted voice content, email, websites, and other electronic access points.
  • Write technical [prototype] manuals, training manuals, and standard operating procedures for prototypes undergoing CONOP development.
  • Ensure that Technical Data Packages (TDPs) are prepared and delivered for assigned projects that reach the prototype or low-rate production stages of development. Assist in the development of the TDP.
  • Create and maintain basic briefs for various prototype devices and coordinate test event support and participate in planning meetings.
  • Prepare and deliver Test Plans and Test Results for both functional and operational tests for assigned projects.
  • Travel as needed to support test events. The contractor shall operate test units, monitoring devices, and associated equipment.
  • Interact with and coordinate prototype and low-rate production with external parties tasked with producing units for assigned projects.
  • Provide routine status updates and communicate urgent matters involving production issues to management and other stakeholders in a timely manner via phone, email, or other normal communication methods.
  • Manage inventory documentation for ordering and incoming material, and general organization of lab inventory.
  • Write lab SOPs for equipment, including Hazard Analysis of procedures. These are standard Crane SOPs and written to that standard.
  • Obtain and maintain certification in Hazard Analysis and Non-Ordnance SOP Writing via NSWC Crane offered training.
  • Demonstrate competent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal oversight and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with technical concepts and terminology.
  • Focus on end-user’s needs and ensure the documentation is intuitive and easy to follow. Conduct usability testing and gather user feedback for continuous documentation improvement.
  • Manage documentation lifecycle and maintain documentation product updates/changes. Archive outdated documents and ensure the latest versions are readily available.
  • Utilize documentation tools and software to create and manage documents. Incorporate multimedia elements (videos, images, diagrams) to enhance understanding if/when applicable.

Qualifications:

  • A-BET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in STEM / technical / engineering discipline
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a position requiring STEM / technical / engineering expertise
  • Eligibility for a SECRET clearance.
  • Experience prepping TDPs
  • Experience with Hazard Analysis
  • Excellent technical writing and data presentation skills
  • Track record of complex problem-solving aptitude
  • Ability to think analytically and independently
  • Team orientated
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in written form
  • Willingness to learn new skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years technical writing experience or other related technical field
  • Existing experience producing technical documentation for projects on IAC MAC task orders
  • Experience in a technical writing position working with IAC MAC customers
  • Experience in DoD customer relations and technical writing
  • Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC)
  • Active minimum Secret clearance
