What is a technical translator?

As a technical translator, your responsibilities are to translate technical documents such as machine instructions into a different language. Your duties may require you to interpret industry-specific terms that do not have an equivalent in a different language, select new terminology, and learn more about the materials you are translating. You also proofread reports, frequently communicate with the original developers to verify that translations are accurate, and ensure all content is translated on tight deadlines. Technical translations are needed for many languages, including Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, Italian, and Arabic, so the industry strongly prefers applicants who are fluent in more than two languages.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a technical translator?

To thrive as a Technical Translator, you need fluency in at least two languages along with a strong understanding of specialized terminology in fields such as engineering, IT, or science. Familiarity with computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, terminology management systems, and relevant translation certifications are typically required. Attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication are essential soft skills for accurately conveying complex information. These competencies ensure precise, clear, and contextually appropriate translations that support global collaboration and reduce the risk of critical misunderstandings.

How does a technical translator typically collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts during the translation process?

Technical Translators frequently work closely with engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts to ensure that complex technical concepts are accurately conveyed in the target language. This often involves attending meetings, reviewing source materials, and clarifying terminology or context to produce precise translations. Open communication is essential, as translators may need to resolve ambiguities or adapt localized content for specific audiences, making collaboration a key aspect of the role. This teamwork not only improves translation quality but also expands the translator’s technical knowledge and professional network.

What is the difference between Technical Translator vs Technical Writer?

Technical Translators focus on converting technical documents into different languages, requiring language proficiency and technical knowledge. Technical Writers create original technical content, manuals, and guides, emphasizing writing skills and technical understanding. While both roles require technical expertise, Translators specialize in language conversion, whereas Writers develop new documentation. They often work together but serve distinct functions in technical communication.

Job Description Summary:
ModMed is seeking a dynamic and experienced Technical Program Manager / Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead our Agile Release Train (ART). This pivotal role is responsible for orchestrating our quarterly PI Planning process, facilitating all ART ceremonies, and driving cross-functional alignment between engineering, product, and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a master of value stream management, adept at streamlining dependencies, managing risks, and optimizing the flow of work for both traditional SDLC and iterative AI/ML development lifecycles. Beyond day-to-day program execution, you will partner with senior leadership to shape technical roadmaps, champion continuous improvement, and mentor teams in SAFe best practices. This position uniquely requires practical, hands-on experience using generative AI tools to automate reports, derive data-driven insights, and enhance program predictability.
This role is pivotal in orchestrating PI Planning, streamlining dependencies, and ensuring alignment across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
ART Leadership & Execution
  • Own and facilitate all ART ceremonies, including PI Planning, ART Syncs, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and System Demos.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor scrum teams, empowering them to deliver on PI objectives with measurable business impact.
  • Drive cross-team alignment with Product Management, Engineering and Architecture to ensure execution remains tightly coupled with strategy.
  • Translate Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and ensure high-visibility communication across the organization.

Value Stream & Technical Program Management
  • Optimize the flow of value across the ART, proactively identifying and managing risks, dependencies, and impediments to keep delivery on track.
  • Apply a deep understanding of both the traditional SDLC and the iterative AI/ML development lifecycle to manage technical complexities and guide data science, engineering, and MLOps teams.
  • Implement and maintain metrics, dashboards, and information radiators to measure ART health, predictability, and throughput.
  • Facilitate seamless collaboration and communication across distributed, matrixed teams, acting as the primary translator between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Strategic Alignment & Continuous Improvement
  • Partner with senior leadership to shape technical roadmaps, inform capacity planning, and assist with resource allocation.
  • Champion Agile and SAFe practices and drive continuous improvement, guiding the adoption of DevOps, Release on Demand, and Lean UX across the value stream.
  • Act as a thought leader and mentor, helping to evolve the Program Management and Agile practices within the organization.

Practical AI Skills
  • AI-Powered Communication: Using GenAI tools to draft status reports, create first drafts of project plans, summarize long documents, and prepare stakeholder presentations.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Using AI to analyze project data, predict potential risks, or identify bottlenecks in your team's workflow.
  • Task Automation: Automating your own repetitive tasks so you can focus on high-value strategic work.

ModMed Benefits Highlight: At ModMed, we believe it's important to offer a competitive benefits package designed to meet the diverse needs of our growing workforce. Eligible Modernizers can enroll in a wide range of benefits:
United States
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits, including a company Health Savings Account contribution,
  • 401(k): ModMed provides a matching contribution each payday of 50% of your contribution deferred on up to 6% of your compensation. After one year of employment with ModMed, 100% of any matching contribution you receive is yours to keep.
  • Generous Paid Time Off and Paid Parental Leave programs,
  • Company paid Life and Disability benefits, Flexible Spending Account, and Employee Assistance Programs,
  • Company-sponsored Business Resource & Special Interest Groups that provide engaged and supportive communities within ModMed,
  • Professional development opportunities, including tuition reimbursement programs and unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning,
  • Global presence and in-person collaboration opportunities; dog-friendly HQ (US), Hybrid office-based roles and remote availability for some roles,
  • Weekly catered breakfast and lunch, treadmill workstations, Zen, and wellness rooms within our BRIC headquarters.
