About the Team
Our Program Delivery Office (PDO) team within Associate Experience Technology is looking for a dynamic Senior Director of Technical Program Management (TPM). The PDO team drives intent for Associate Experiencesโ highest priority initiatives and critical technologyโwide programs. In this exciting role, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to execute on key strategic programs. This is a new organization within Associate Experience Technology that will give you an opportunity to collaborate with smart and passionate leaders to influence results and lead important and exciting projects from day one.
In addition to leading technical programs, you will also pave the way for an expanding TPM discipline within the team by leveraging your industry knowledge and experience to teach the organization what a great TPM can achieve.
Our TPM Sr. Directors have:
- Strong technical backgrounds (ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services) with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout delivery lifeโcycle
- Experience building and leading a worldโclass team of technical program managers with a mission to power realโtime, intelligent experiences for our customers and associates
- Lead technologyโfocused discussions with senior leadership by providing valuable insights and recommendations that guide technologyโbased decisions
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills
- Excellent problemโsolving and influencing skills
- A quantitative approach to problemโsolving and a collaborative implementer of holistic solutions; a systems thinker
- Experienced TPM leader to grow and develop a team of TPMs, while also building the foundations for the TPM practice
- Ability to simplify the technically complex and drive wellโeducated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives
- Deep focus on execution, followโthrough, accountability, and results
- Exceptional crossโteam collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done
- Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and deepโseated empathy for teams and partners
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelorโs Degree
- At least 9 years of experience managing technical programs
Preferred Qualifications
- 9+ years of experience designing and building dataโintensive solutions using distributed computing
- 5+ years of experience in building distributed systems and highly available services using cloud computing services / architecture โ preferably using AWS
- 5+ years of building & leading experienced TPM team
- 5+ years experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms
- 5+ years of experience with Agile delivery
- 5+ years of delivering large and complex programs โ where you own the business or technical vision, collaborate with large crossโfunctional teams, secure commitments on deliverables and unblock teams to land business impact
- Experience in building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment
- Bachelorโs degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering)
- MBA or Masterโs Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering) or equivalent experience

The minimum and maximum fullโtime annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for partโtime roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked. McLean, VA: $269,600 โ $307,700; New York, NY: $294,100 โ $335,700; Richmond, VA: $245,100 โ $279,800.
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidateโs offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performanceโbased incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or longโterm incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or nonโdiscretionary depending on the plan.
