Job description

The Senior Manager, Technical Solution Engineer will collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into solution designs and lead technology teams / system integrators to build effective solutions while providing expert advice and support throughout the project lifecycle and beyond. This role assumes joint-technology ownership of product delivery to turn business goals into actionable technology blueprints within Marriott's HR Corporate Systems domain. Coordinates the design, development, configuration and implementation of HR applications. Reports to the Senior Director, HR Solution Engineering & Production Support and will focus initially on custom-developed applications (learning and development; benefits management) and may expand into SAAS products servicing a wide variety of associate-facing HR applications and needs.   

This position involves degrees of technology development, facilitation of cross-discipline forums and processes to gain alignment on critical business needs and technology investment, and advancement of IT initiatives. The ideal candidate should have HR technology and engineering expertise built through hands-on experience, possesses strong critical thinking skills and an ability to manage complex stakeholder interactions, and be an effective communicator. This is an individual contributor role, but the ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively to amplify the collective output of the team. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE 

Education and Experience 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline or equivalent experience/certification 
  • 7+ years of progressive professional experience in information technology application development, demonstrating a pattern of exceptional performance contributing to the design of successful and user-centered digital experiences
  • 5+ years' experience with full stack development principles and practices 
  • Experience effectively collaborating and troubleshooting technical issues across platforms, including a mix of the following: 

Ux design tools (e.g. Figma) 

Front-end development using React and TypeScript 

Front-end state management using tools like Redux, Mobx, Zustand. 

Back-end development using Java, NodeJS and NestJS 

Use of API/Microservices architecture 

Database technology (e.g., Couchbase, SQL, NoSQL) 

Container orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes 

Cloud Platforms: AWS 

DevOps tools (GitHub; Harness) 

ITSM tools (e.g. Service Now, Jira) 

  • Strong problem-solving, decision making, and analytical skills, to bring clarity to areas of ambiguity.  Adept at thinking strategically to advance the evaluation of opportunities and alternatives.  
  • Skilled at converting business needs into feasible solutions. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks/initiatives concurrently. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships and gain confidence and respect of key leaders and decision-makers. 
  • Effective change manager able to identify and take steps to remove barriers or accelerate its pace, while setting high standards of performance for self and/or others. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Experience in user-centered design principles.  
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, as well as prototyping tools for interactive designs. 
  • Experience in all phases of the SDLC including 'back-half' formulation of test strategies (System, UaT, Performance) and setup of monitoring tools such as Dynatrace.  
  • Demonstrated success leading business process transformations. 
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and technologies.  
  • Experience working with Oracle Fusion HCM and / or Service Now (SNOW) platforms. 
  • Proficiency with Agile development methodologies 
  • HR domain experience. Hospitality industry experience / knowledge.  

Core Work Activities 

  • Serve as the conduit between technology engineering and the business.  
  • Manage intake of work to the Global Technology team (for selected applications) and help manage the Product Backlog roadmap - define project schedules, evaluate resource allocation and budget constraints, and recommend the best course of action. 
  • Lead technical discovery to identify pain points, evaluate needs, design solutions, and develop LOE estimates.  
  • Facilitate and manage definition and screening of business requirements across broad dimensions including user journeys and process flows, identification of solution capabilities and the underlying technology components, and the UI/UX design through wireframing, prototyping and interactive mockups that help visualize and communicate design concepts.   
  • Collaborate with System Engineers to build proof-of-concepts and product demos.   
  • Collaborate with technology architects to evaluate and choose the optimal technical stack, framework, and product. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, project managers, system integrators, and other engineers, to deliver high-quality technology solutions. 
  • Contribute to execution of the project lifecycle - assist in the formulation of work product definition and analysis, collaborate to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, and help manage effective service provider transitions (project startup / transition out).   
  • Maintain industry and technology knowledge to identify trends and changes in technology strategy and influence business stakeholders.  

Technical Leadership 

  • Lead and mentor other technical team members and peers on the Agile Team on best practices/principles (e.g., via code reviews) 
  • Create a culture of mentorship & sponsorship, aimed at strengthening professional development and technical principles 
  • Ensure the quality and timely delivery of application features.  
  • Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottleneck and help onboard new technical team members 
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of Corporate Systems products and services.  
  • Provides input on department or project budgets, capital expenditures or other cost/resource estimates as requested. 
  • Assist in managing technical debt  
  • Apply knowledge/judgment to achieve business goals.  
  • Keeps up-to-date functionally and technically and apply new knowledge to job.  
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required for this position.
