Job description

Grade 17 - Starting hourly rate: $23.40. Rate of pay depends on qualifications. Job Description JOB SUMMARY The Technical Security Specialist is responsible for providing technical and physical security equipment support, recommendations, and specifications required to effectively operate the SAWS System's security program to include the development and maintenance of security system technologies that protect personnel, operational assets, and facility properties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs complex security system equipment. Coordinates new installations and upgrades with, and reviews work of, outside contractors. Evaluates and recommends technical system-wide security needs, formulates installation action plans and facilitates proper action(s) in order to assure compliance with applicable security rules and regulations.

Analyzes and measures system performance and suitability of security systems/equipment for particular applications. Maintains documentation on installations, component and system inventories, contractor work quality and delivery of project materials. Reviews work performance of contractors installing security systems.

Assists with the development and implementation of technical security procedures to avoid/control losses and to provide a secure work environment. Conducts physical security inspections/surveys to reduce risk of loss. Prepares incident reports, procedures and checklists as required.

May respond to major and minor incidents and accidents and prepare incident reports. Conducts investigations and preserves video or data evidence to support post-investigation actions (employee discipline, criminal or civil proceedings, arbitration). Manages and maintains access control system to ensure positive control of employees, visitors and contractors.

Participates in short and long term planning including budget preparation. Performs other duties as assigned. DECISION MAKING This position receives general supervision.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalent. Four years' experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical, telephony, electronic systems and/or components. Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheets, diagramming and database software. Ability to use hand tools and electrical/electronic test equipment. Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate's Degree in Electronics or related field from an institution accredited by a recognized accrediting agency. Formal technical installation security certification training. Knowledge of guard tour and/or key control system softwares.

Global Positioning System (GPS). JOB DIMENSIONS Contact with internal and external customers, governmental agencies, consultants, contractors, vendors and the general public. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Working conditions are in an office, field environment to conduct field observation and audits with some exposure to adverse weather conditions. May be required to work hours other than the regular shift including nights and weekends; position requires on-call status and flexible work schedules.
