Technical Reviewer Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Technical Reviewer (Remote), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Reviewer (Remote), a strong background in the relevant technical domain, critical analysis, and attention to detail are essential, often supported by a degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Familiarity with content management systems, document collaboration tools such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word, and sometimes industry-specific certifications is typically required. Excellent written communication, time management, and the ability to provide constructive feedback are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure the accuracy, clarity, and usefulness of technical content while maintaining high standards and meeting deadlines in a remote work environment.

How do Technical Reviewers working remotely typically collaborate with authors and editorial teams?

Remote Technical Reviewers often use digital collaboration tools such as email, shared document platforms, and project management software to communicate with authors and editorial staff. Regular virtual meetings are common to discuss feedback, clarify technical points, and ensure alignment on review standards. Clear written communication and timely responses are key, as much of the interaction does not happen in real time. This structure allows Technical Reviewers to maintain strong professional relationships and effectively contribute to the quality of technical content, even when working from different locations.

What is a Technical Reviewer (Remote)?

A Technical Reviewer (Remote) is a professional who evaluates technical content such as articles, documentation, software code, or educational materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, and quality, all while working from a remote location. Their responsibilities often include identifying errors, suggesting improvements, and verifying that the material meets industry standards. Technical reviewers often have expertise in the field they are reviewing, such as software development, engineering, or scientific research. Working remotely allows them to collaborate with authors and publishers from anywhere, making the role flexible and accessible. This position is crucial for maintaining the credibility and usefulness of technical publications.

Job description

We are a 100% virtual CPA firm, with our team located across the United States. As a real estate niche-focused firm, we serve Real Estate Investors, Syndicates, and Fund Managers. Our team has a passion for real estate and often owns investment properties themselves.

We are on a mission to change the accounting industry by creating the premier people-first firm where strong and talented team members will thrive. We are innovators of tax services and firm culture with work-life integration. We accomplish this by using the best technology and automation on the market, offering unlimited vacation and sick days, fostering an autonomous work environment, providing ongoing training, and offering health insurance and 401(k) matching.

As a Technical Tax Manager at Hall CPA, your top priority is to ensure high-quality tax returns are delivered to our clients. You perform a technical review of returns prepared/reviewed by staff and seniors at our firm, and then sign the tax return for delivery. You will also be charged with providing technical feedback and mentoring to our staff and seniors.

Because a Technical Tax Manager's top priority is quality reviews, the role is not responsible for owning team performance and KPIs, setting team goals and managing team capacity, creating accountability systems, and managing team execution. Those are responsibilities of the team lead, and if you have a desire to gain those responsibilities, there's a pathway to do so. The Technical Tax Manager role is intentionally designed with a narrow job scope focused on technical excellence.

Team members who thrive at our firm have strong time-management skills, are self-starters, are adaptable, take pride in their work, and work well in an autonomous environment.

Annual salary for this role starts at $120,000. This role is eligible for annual bonuses.

Areas of Responsibility
  • Conduct final technical reviews of tax returns and documents for individuals, partnerships, S-corporations, trusts, and corporations, and sign tax returns
  • Provide tax return debriefs to clients, walking them through technical areas of the return
  • Research complex tax issues and provide recommendations for resolution
  • Review and facilitate tax resolution with federal and state tax authorities
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and procedures
  • Assist in team development of technical skills and work quality, providing mentorship and training
  • Responsible for maintaining strong client relationships by managing their expectations, being responsive to their communications/emails
  • Recommend other firm services to the benefit of the client. Ex: bookkeeping services, tax advisory, etc.
Measures for Success
  • Timeliness and accuracy of deliverables and workpapers
  • Happiness rating of tax preparation clients
  • Delivering on your promises with clients
Expectations for Remote Work
  • Clean background with no noise or distractions
  • Business casual attire for client interactions
  • Always use video (80% of communication is non-verbal)
  • We provide a laptop and an annual $500 tech reimbursement for computer/tech accessories
You're a Good Fit For Our Culture If:
  • You're friendly, have a sense of humor, enjoy helping and teaching others, and speak kindly of others
  • You're disciplined and thrive in a fast-paced environment that is in relentless pursuit of changing the accounting industry
  • You have exceptional time management and supervisory skills
  • You possess excellent communication and listening skills, breaking down barriers to solve problems and improve operational performance
  • You take ownership of your work, clients, and team members and drive projects to the finish line
  • You love working with and speaking to clients, delivering results, and improving their lives
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university
  • CPA or EA certification
  • Experience with real estate tax matters and multi-state tax returns
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience
