Engineering Manager, this position is on-site at our Vascular manufacturing facility in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico.

The Opportunity
This position will provide support to our Medical Devices, Vascular manufacturing facility in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. Our medical devices help more than 10,000 people have healthier hearts, improve quality of life for thousands of people living with chronic pain and movement disorders, and liberate more than 500,000 people with diabetes from routine fingersticks and Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive, and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease.
This role will promote Abbott's vision and values and serves as leadership role model. Provides strategy and leadership to the department with the objective of optimize business end results. Will support the performance monitoring of purchased materials focused on quality, cost-effective, cycle time, reliable, and efficient use of goods. Evidence compiled will be provided to purchasing and suppliers for improvement. Projects will deliver customer satisfaction and achieve site volume build, improve manufacturability of products, equipment availability and enhance regulatory compliance while meeting division and corporate goals. Manage team of resources supporting manufacturing operations in partnering with multiple teams to design, deliver, qualify and validate projects for efficient and world class manufacturing methods.
What You'll Do
  • Responsible to manage and provide direction to a team to ensure materials are available and efficiently utilized, and manufacturing equipment are up and running supporting manufacturing production effort.
  • Responsible for technical leadership of the site. Responsible for product knowledge, materials, and process understanding.
  • Responsible for Continuous Improvement Projects generation, design and execution, including both productivity, materials specifications improvements, and cost improvement projects
  • Responsible for product/material yield, scrap analysis and resolution of yield related events.
  • Perform risk assessment of materials, process, and equipment to prevent possible disruptions to supply chain operations from supplier to customer.
  • Responsible for resolution of complex problem solving related to materials, product and process. Including statistical data analysis. •
  • Lead materials related savings projects, from initiation to execution and report out.
  • Select and manage relationship with major suppliers, vendors, or subcontractors to ensure the organization received satisfactory standards of materials, products and services, in accordance to specs
  • Assures compliance of subordinates to all policies and procedures concerning all areas of the Quality System, environmental, regulatory, safety and human resources.
  • Interfaces with other plant areas or divisional organizations in the implementations of cost reduction projects, process understanding and trouble shooting in relation to the plant processes. •
  • Cultivate internal and external network of resources to complete tasks. Mirror role working hand to hand with Purchasing area. This role is a technical extension that facilitates site procurement activities and technical liaison with suppliers. •
  • Assists site management team to support projects execution, including methodology to process engineering to gain supply chain optimization.
  • Utilize Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, including SAP, Viewpoint, SharePoint, and CATS WEB.
  • Mentors' employees by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance.
  • Initiates, suggests, supports and implements actions to maximize profits by containing expenses through improved operations, new products transfers, improved material selection, and plant's facilities and equipment capacity studies.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, MBA desirable.
  • Minimum 8 years related work experience in manufacturing and engineering area.
  • Experience supervising team.
  • Excellent communication skills in both: English and Spanish.
  • Computer literate. Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a team environment, adaptable to change, able to manage competing priorities, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Project management and Supply Chain experience can be beneficial at the role.
  • Exposure to risk assessments, materials specs and compositions, suppliers' negotiations at product specs level, supplier and site manufacturing processes, cost/benefits and material usage analysis, planning and forecasting, identification of market factors affecting materials interactions with product are desired skills for the incumbent.
