ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated technical writer to join our Kratos Defense & Rocket Support Services Division in Crane, Indiana. In this critical role, you'll partner with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and program managers to transform complex technical information into clear, accurate, and compliant documentation that drives program success. You'll be responsible for developing, organizing, and managing program-specific documentation that meets stringent defense industry standards. Your writing portfolio will span formal program documentation, user manuals, SOPs, training materials, and technical reports-ensuring consistent, high-quality communication across all divisional functions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Core Responsibilities:
  • Document development, tracking, and maintenance
  • Collaboration and communication:
    • Collaborate with SMEs and team members to gather information for documentation, translating technical information into user-friendly content for diverse audiences
    • Support document coordination including scheduling, tracking feedback, and version control
  • Quality assurance:
    • Edit, format, and proofread program-specific documents for clarity, consistency, grammar, and technical accuracy
  • Technical skills and professional attributes:
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to write clear, concise, and persuasive content
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members at all levels of the organization
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information per government standards
  • Travel: Up to 10% (support to NSWC Crane, industry teammates, and program reviews)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in English, communications, technical writing, or a related discipline; equivalent experience considered
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in engineering plus a degree in English, journalism, or technical writing, or certification in technical writing.

Experience and Clearance:
  • US citizenship required
  • Active Department of War (DoW) Secret clearance (or ability to obtain)
  • 3-5 years of experience in technical writing or proposal writing
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD documentation standards and DoW technical publication practices
