Job description

About SimpliSafe

We're a high-tech home security company that's passionate about protecting the life you've built and our mission of keeping Every Home Secure. And we've created a culture here that cares just as deeply about the career you're building. Ours is a no ego culture of collaboration and innovation where those seeking their next challenge can find big opportunities and make a huge impact on the lives of all those who we protect. We don't just want you to work here. We want you to grow and thrive here.
We're embracing a hybrid work model that enables our teams to split their time between office and home. Hybrid for us means we expect our teams to come together in our state-of-the-art office on two core days, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday – working together in person and choosing where they work for the remainder of the week. We all benefit from flexibility and get to use the best of both worlds to get our work done.

Why are we hiring?

Well, we're growing and thriving. So, we need smart, talented, and humble people who share our values to join us as we disrupt the home security space and relentlessly pursue our mission of keeping Every Home Secure.

The Job

SimpliSafe is looking for a Principal Technical Program Manager to support our Engineering team as it evolves in delivering customer-focused product capabilities and enhancements. We are the fastest growing home security company in the country competing against the entrenched giants, like ADT, and the new-to-the-space giants, like Amazon and Google. To compete in this ever-growing IoT home automation security space we must learn and iterate quickly, work collaboratively, and deliver creatively. In service to this challenge, our engineering team is proud to own and run the literal "full stack", from designing and building the circuit boards on our hardware all the way to coding the UI on our mobile applications.

At Simplisafe, we place an emphasis on a 'no-ego', collaborative culture and we have recently been named a 'Top Place to Work' in 2021 by the Boston Business Journal. From the top down, we all work together to solve the difficult challenges within the home security and IoT industries. Like our products, we are constantly evolving to provide the best employment experience possible. If Simplisafe sounds like a company you'd enjoy working for, we'd love to hear from you!

In this role, you will work directly within the engineering leadership team to drive process improvement across engineering and visibility upward to the Executive Team and the Board of Directors. Additionally, you will help keep engineering aligned with company objectives and meeting internal stakeholders' needs and priorities.

We are looking for someone who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, demonstrates a consistent track record of delivery, and has experience in organizational improvement and change management at the company level. In this role, you will be a positive influencer across diverse teams, be able to effectively rally support for your initiatives, and be able to help channel the engineering organizations' efforts to the greatest effect in service of our customers and internal objectives.

  • Deliver change management and process introduction from pilot through widespread or standard adoption, especially related to driving engineering efficiency across software (cloud, embedded systems) and hardware (mechanical, electrical, and systems) engineering.
  • Build end-to-end understanding in key areas that benefit the organization. Facilitate technical trade-offs between short-term engineering team needs and long-term business needs.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to streamline engineering processes
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure the effectiveness of engineering initiatives
Basic Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience working with software engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience in technical leadership roles (e.g. technical program management, systems architecture, software engineering, etc.)
  • 10+ years of experience with software development lifecycle from conception to delivery
  • 5+ years of technical project management experience and demonstrated knowledge of program management best practices
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, or other related fields or relevant work experience providing credibility in engineering and development domains.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in a technical leadership role
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and a highly collaborative attitude
  • Knowledge of IoT and security hardware
What Values You'll Share
  • Customer Obsessed - Building deep empathy for our customers, putting them at the core of our work, and developing strong, long-term relationships with them.

  • One Team - Taking a highly collaborative approach to achieving success.
  • Lift As We Climb - Investing in developing others and helping others around us succeed.
