This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a Firmware and Embedded Software Engineering Operations Lead on the Lunar Avionics Team, you will work directly with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) to deliver the embedded software and firmware systems that will power human flight to and on the surface of the moon. You will perform project management functions across the entire embedded software and firmware lifecycle from requirements definition, design development, integration with flight hardware, verification, and deployment to production systems. You will assist communicating status, risks & opportunities, variances, and recovery plans to engineering and program management. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain the team's operating cadence through communication to stakeholders, management of key performance indicators and project meetings to report key performance metrics (technical, cost, schedule, and risk) for firmware and embedded software development
  • Generate boards/tools necessary for project and product health to Lunar Product Engineering, including data for Weekly Business Reviews (WBR) and Lunar Program Weekly Review and Program Management Reviews (PMRs)
  • Performs scrum master role for firmware and embedded software teams following agile development methods, including defining and executing team sprints
  • Supports team representation in agile product planning sessions and release planning activities
  • Define, monitor, and track all receivables and deliverable products from the firmware and embedded software IPT
  • Maintain an integrated management schedule factoring in dependencies and deliverables across the Lunar program for the embedded software and firmware scope
  • Work closely with internal and external hardware integration facilities and test environments to coordinate on-time delivery of firmware and embedded software systems
  • Coordinate firmware integration with hardware systems, ensuring seamless operation between embedded software and avionics hardware platforms
  • Lead tiger teams for critical firmware issues and integration challenges
  • Be a mentor and offer leadership, putting those around you first

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent experience in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical disciplines
  • 3+ years in Aerospace, Automotive, Consumer Electronics, Defense, Industrial or similar industries, executing design or production of firmware and embedded software systems that interface with hardware
  • 3+ years of experience in technical program management managing integrated firmware, embedded software, and hardware engineering development projects, managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost
  • 3+ years working directly with hardware integration teams or suppliers in the execution of firmware deployment, hardware-software integration, or embedded systems development
  • 5+ years working directly with firmware and embedded software engineering teams in bringing integrated hardware-software products from concept to production
  • Experienced at collecting and synthesizing information from multiple stakeholders and translating data into firmware/software project requirements, scoping and planning documents
  • Experience with Agile or Scaled Agile, MS Project, P6 Primavera, or similar project management tools
  • Strong background in embedded software development lifecycle and firmware integration processes with hardware systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while regularly providing imaginative and detailed technical solutions to complex embedded systems problems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or MBA
  • 5+ years of experience in technical program management managing complex integrated firmware, embedded software, and hardware engineering development projects, managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost
  • 7+ years working directly with firmware and/or embedded software engineering teams in bringing integrated hardware-software products from concept to production
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience with DO-178C, DO-254 and other relevant certification standards for safety-critical embedded systems
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and flight software development
  • Knowledge of embedded software testing, verification, and validation processes
  • Experience with version control systems, continuous integration, and DevOps practices for embedded systems
  • Familiarity with aerospace system design requirements such as thermal, vibration, shock, EMI/EMC, acoustics, electrical grounding/bonding as they relate to embedded software and firmware systems

Compensation Range for:

CA applicants is $197,529.00 - $276,539.55 CO applicants is $181,626.00 - $254,275.35 WA applicants is $197,529.00 - $276,539.55

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
