Job description

Be Here. Be Great. Working for a leader in the insurance industry means opportunity for you. Great American Insurance Group's member companies are subsidiaries of American Financial Group. We combine a "small company" culture where your ideas will be heard with "big company" expertise to help you succeed. With over 30 specialty and property and casualty operations, there are always opportunities here to learn and grow.

At Great American, we value and recognize the benefits derived when people with different backgrounds and experiences work together to achieve business results. Our goal is to create a workplace where all employees feel included, empowered, and enabled to perform at their best.

Join our Predictive Analytics team within the Business Data & Analytics department. This Technical Product Manager will support existing underwriting risk and pricing models and help guide the creation of new model solutions for a variety of Great American divisions. The role partners closely with business units, underwriting, claims, actuarial, data science, IT, and other shared services to understand business needs, translate those needs into actionable requirements, and support model implementation, adoption, and ongoing enhancement. The ideal candidate is business-oriented with strong product/project execution skills, analytical curiosity, and the ability to communicate clearly across business and technical teams.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a business-facing Technical Product Manager for underwriting risk, pricing, and related analytics solutions across multiple Great American divisions.
  • Facilitate discovery and business understanding activities to evaluate division objectives, underwriting workflows, financial goals, user needs, change management considerations, and technology dependencies.
  • Translate business needs into clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process documentation, and implementation plans for technical teams.
  • Support the development and enhancement of advanced analytics tools and business capabilities with an emphasis on responsible experimentation, learning, and practical business value.
  • Develop project plans, product documentation, business process materials, communication plans, and training resources to support successful rollout and adoption.
  • Manage priorities, timelines, dependencies, risks, and enhancement requests to help ensure timely delivery and continuous improvement of model products.
  • Cultivate customer relationships and promote clear, consistent communication among business stakeholders, technical partners, key personnel, and executive leadership.
  • Partner with Great American shared service divisions such as IT, Legal, Corporate Claims, and other enterprise teams to support implementation, governance, and adoption activities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Successful candidates may come from a variety of professional backgrounds. Relevant experience often includes one of the following pathways:
    • Product/project management experience with exposure to analytics, data-driven solutions, technology delivery, or business process improvement.
    • Insurance, underwriting, claims, or related business experience with strong interest in product management, project execution, and analytics-enabled decision making.
  • Property and Casualty insurance experience, underwriting experience, and familiarity with analytics or predictive modeling concepts are highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, organization, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear requirements and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical partners.
  • Curiosity, comfort with ambiguity, willingness to learn, and openness to experimenting with emerging analytics, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Potential opportunities may exist to grow into broader ownership or leadership responsibilities over time, based on business needs and individual interest.
