The Opportunity

Black & Veatch has an exciting opportunity for a Fuels & Natural Resources (F&NR) Sector, Industrial Water Solution Technical Director. This Director level position will be a key member of our Industrial Water Team. The role will be multi-dimensional from a regional standpoint and market standpoint. The primary focus of the role is expanding the F&NR Water Solutions to select industrial clients globally. This includes supporting our initiatives in providing industrial water solutions for data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing (life sciences), mining, consumer products, oil & gas, technology, heavy industry/manufacturing, and energy clients. 

As an employee-owned engineering, construction and consulting company, Black & Veatch delivers innovative infrastructure solutions worldwide in the water, energy, natural resources, telecommunications, and government services markets. Our Industrial Water business is a strategic focus area and is growing, driven by our client's needs - including securing sustainable water supplies, permitting, water treatment, conveyance/intakes, wastewater disposal and meeting organizational ESG/sustainable supply chain goals. We anticipate an increased demand for creative, integrated solutions. This represents a strategic business opportunity for Black & Veatch. The Technical Director will be an important leader for BV to grow its market share and provide world-class services. 

The Team

Black & Veatch's Governments & Communities focuses on specific infrastructure needs of municipalities, state and local governments, and specialized physical and digital infrastructure solutions for government and federal agencies. By joining our market sector, you will be able to provide infrastructure for community benefit. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Leverage and build relationships with key Industrial Water and BV's sales force to help identify new pursuits, and then pre-position, propose, interview and capture new business, with a focus on life sciences (pharmaceutical), semiconductor, mining, oil & gas, technology, and heavy industry/manufacturing clients.

    Lead strategic planning efforts for Industrial Water Clients globally with a focus on building deep client relationships, expanding the volume of work with the clients, and supporting flawless project execution-particularly for complex, high-purity, high-reliability manufacturing environments (e.g., semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturing) includes serving as a seller-doer on applicable projects with support from the BV Project Management Team, local resources, and the global BV Solution Teams. 

    Interface with F&NR Solution groups such as Treatment, Water Resources & Community Planning, Environmental, and Civil Works to compile Solution capabilities into integrated Client service offerings. 

    Serve as a technical resource and mentor for the BV Project Management Team. 

    Provide assistance and oversight for development and implementation of training programs related to flawless execution of Industrial Water projects with G&C Solution groups, support disciplines, and BV Project Management. 

    Monitor, understand, and report to upper- level management the key drivers for customers related to industrial water. 

    Attract and source key talent to help grow and mentor the regional and solution teams. 

    Track industrial water market trends and identify growth services and geographical markets for BV. 

    Interface with F&NR Solution Groups and BV marketing staff to prepare marketing materials and thought leadership articles in developing markets. 

    Prepare quarterly updates on trends and recommendations for future direction in BV industrial water services. 

Management Responsibilities
Acts as a project manager. Among responsibilities is management of a project team. The individual comprising this team may vary by project.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 20+ years of Industrial Water experience 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, including water supply, treatment, reuse, and wastewater solutions in regulated or high-purity environments.
  • Industry experience across life sciences, semiconductors, mining, oil & gas, technology, and heavy industry/manufacturing.
  • Experience in a client-facing/business development role or a Client role with experience in acquiring professional services
  • Experience in executing and implementing strategic planning efforts
  • Experience attracting, growing and leading project teams and executing projects
  • Familiarity with Industrial Water drivers and clients 
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments. 

  • Typical office environment, typical construction environment, extreme weather conditions, high noise level, safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation). Sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods of time, lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
