Job Summary:
SkyBridge Tactical is seeking a Technical Writer II to support documentation, technical data, and training deliverables for the Weapon Systems Training Branch at NSWC Crane. The Technical Writer II will develop, revise, and maintain technical manuals and related documentation for various military equipment and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
Responsibilities:
• Provide technical data support for the development, revision, and change of technical manuals used to support Navy, USSOCOM, Army, USMC, and Air Force equipment.
• Develop and edit technical manuals using Adobe FrameMaker; maintain Microsoft Word-based technical documents, including the JCREW Thread Load Developer Manual, as required by program direction.
• Develop and update technical manuals in accordance with MIL-STD-40051-1D, MIL-STD-40051-2D (Page Based), and MIL-HDBK-1222G.
• Incorporate minor content updates resulting from Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and ensure manuals contain detailed internal hyperlinks and accurate revision content.
• Upon receipt of Government Furnished Information (GFI), review, develop, and update appropriate documentation, maintenance plans, operator manuals, technical repair standards, and Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs) for covered weapon systems and associated equipment.
• Ensure documentation updates are completed in accordance with applicable guidance and deliverable requirements, including CDRLs A014, A015, and A016.
• Support life-cycle management and revision of operator manuals, including JCREW Dismounted, Mounted, and Fixed Operator Manuals; DRAKE Operator Manual; and M3E1 and M3A1 Operator Manuals.
• Support life-cycle management and revision of maintenance manuals, including JCREW Dismounted, Mounted, and Fixed Maintainer Manuals; Drake Maintainer Manual; and M3E1 and M3A1 Maintenance Manuals.
• Develop, revise, and update technical repair standards, Illustrated Parts Breakdowns, Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs), Intermediate Maintenance Work Requirements (IMWRs), and Field Reject Sheets (FRAGLs).
• Develop and update supplemental manuals and technical support documents, including JCREW Fixed Site Installation and Setup Manual, JCREW Administrator Manual, JCREW Thread Load Developer Manual, JCREW supplemental install and removal manuals for vehicles, FCS13RE Operations and Maintenance Plan (OMP), and ROSAM MK49 technical manuals.
• Create and update Quick Reference Guides, including CUAS Quick Reference Guides, and coordinate with engineers, instructors, logisticians, and Government personnel to validate accuracy, usability, and compliance prior to submission.
Qualifications:
Required:
• 3+ years of experience in technical writing, technical editing, maintenance documentation, logistics documentation, curriculum development, or a related field.
• Experience developing or revising structured technical documents, manuals, training materials, or work instructions.
• Ability to interpret technical data, drawings, manuals, and engineering input and convert them into clear end-user documentation.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and technical publishing tools such as Adobe FrameMaker or comparable software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate directly with technical subject matter experts.
• Ability to manage multiple document updates and deadlines in a Government-contractor support environment.
• Must be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of producing accurate, high-quality deliverables.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Instructional Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered.
• U.S. citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance and meet all contract and site access requirements.
Preferred:
• Experience supporting Department of Defense, Navy, or other Federal technical documentation programs.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-40051, MIL-HDBK-1222G, Section 508, SCORM, or related documentation and training standards.
• Experience supporting operator, maintenance, repair, or logistics documentation for weapons systems or related technical equipment.
• Experience with curriculum development, lesson plans, or training material development for adult learning environments.
• Experience supporting document revisions tied to engineering changes, maintenance updates, or fielding activities.
• Strong proofreading and document quality assurance skills.
