Finning is seeking an experienced Technical Communicator to join our team. In this critical role, you will serve as a technical expert, providing advanced troubleshooting support to technicians, service teams, and customers across our operations. Working closely with Caterpillar, internal stakeholders, and field teams, you will help identify, investigate, and resolve complex product health issues while driving continuous improvement in equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Do

Technical Support & Problem Resolution

  • Provide advanced technical support to field and shop technicians to efficiently diagnose and repair customer equipment.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine system issues based on information provided by technicians in the field.
  • Leverage Technical Communicator expertise and Caterpillar's Dealer Solution Network to support new product problem resolution.
  • Partner with service teams to minimize equipment downtime and customer impact.

Product Health Management

  • Identify, define, manage, and resolve product health concerns affecting customers and Finning operations.
  • Work directly with Caterpillar to investigate emerging product issues and determine corrective actions.
  • Maintain ownership of Product Problem Management processes and provide ongoing input on known and developing issues.
  • Monitor response times and ensure timely resolution of technical concerns.

Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in failure analysis and root cause investigations to drive product improvement initiatives.
  • Support design validation efforts and provide valuable feedback from real-world operating conditions.
  • Manage field-follow units, test equipment, and data collection activities as required.
  • Support implementation of Product Improvement Programs (PIPs) and manufacturer-led support initiatives.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations, Sales, Service, Technical Support teams, and Caterpillar representatives.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance to service departments and product support teams.
  • Deliver presentations and communicate technical findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Represent Finning professionally while maintaining confidentiality and ethical business practices.

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • 5-10 years of "hands on tools" heavy equipment service experience in Mining.
  • Previous Field Service experience is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience working with Caterpillar equipment and applications.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues remotely and through collaboration with technicians.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Mining Caterpillar equipment design and operation.
  • Advanced knowledge of:
    • Diesel engines
    • Hydraulic systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Mechanical systems
  • Understanding of product health management and its commercial impact.
  • Working knowledge of Caterpillar computer systems and Microsoft Office applications.
