Assistant Teacher Job Description
OVERVIEW
An Assistant Teacher employed at STARS Early Learning Academy will work in a support role to the Lead Teacher. The Assistant Teacher will help ensure a safe and stimulating environment for children.
In addition, this person will develop professional and respectful relationships with parents and co-workers and assist with all classroom activities as directed by the Lead Teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 18 years old, work under the supervision of a teacher, and meet specific educational and experience requirements specified by the DHS Child Care Center Rules.
  • Preferred previous experience in an early childhood or elementary classroom setting.
  • Maintain continued professional development.
  • Certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Committed, positive, energetic, patient.
  • Preferred knowledge of early childhood and/or school age best practices.
  • Mobility required to ensure the safety of children.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Background study clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Arrive to work on time.
  • Assist in supervising and managing a classroom of early childhood or school-age children while remaining in ratio.
  • Willingly follow instructions and work in a support role.
  • Support Lead Teacher to ensure a safe and stimulating environment for children.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in preparing daily activities.
  • Remain flexible and calm while multi-tasking in a busy classroom environment.
  • Establish safe and positive boundaries with children.
  • Implement classroom management techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment for children and families.
  • Develop professional and respectful relationships with parents and co-workers.
  • Play with children on the floor.
  • Be outdoors supervising children in various weather conditions.
  • Adhere to the classroom daily schedule.
  • Problem-solve quickly under pressure.
  • Assist with all activities as directed by the Lead Teacher which may include, but not limited to, art projects, diaper changing, small group activities, potty training, serving meals,
    supervising children, cleaning and putting away materials, and beginning/end of day routines.
  • Maintain documentation of children when needed under the guidance of the Lead Teacher.
  • Support children with special or individual needs.
