About This Role

As a Lead Teacher at UHP, you will have the rewarding opportunity to provide care and education to children in a play-based learning environment.

What You'll Do
  • Create engaging curricula that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of children, in line with UHP's philosophy and goals.
  • Provide exceptional care and supervision for assigned groups of children, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
  • Foster positive relationships among children and encourage social skills through interactive activities.
  • Treat each child with dignity and respect, embracing their unique individuality and cultural background.
  • Recognize and respect the multicultural diversity of our school community by promoting cultural awareness and inclusion.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, providing regular progress updates and seeking their input.
  • Coordinate with co-teachers and administrators to ensure a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Meet regulatory requirements and contribute to the school's compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and stay up-to-date with best practices in early childhood education.

  • Conduct annual conferences with parents to discuss child development and progress.

  • Record and track child progress, preparing regular progress reports and meeting with parents as needed.

  • Represent the co-teaching team at Board meetings, ensuring a unified voice and collaborative approach.

Requirements
  • A DPI teaching license from the State of Wisconsin that includes Pre-K (4K), a Bachelor’s Degree to apply for a substitute teaching license or a Bachelor’s Degree and the commitment to acquire a 4K teaching license is a requirement for this position.
  • Willingness to fulfill job responsibilities in accordance with UHP program philosophy and possess a warm, friendly personality with excellent communication skills.
  • Age 18 or older, with a professional demeanor towards children, families, parent helpers, and co-workers.
  • At least 320 hours of experience as an assistant child care teacher in a group child care center or other approved early childhood setting.
  • Ability to lift 2 -7-year-old children if needed up to 50 pounds, prior to assuming the position, a person hired to be a child care teacher shall complete or obtain coursework related to this position.
  • Completion of a background check and vaccination for COVID-19.
  • Other required training for the position will be provided with assistance from UHP.
  • Able to work with co-teacher in cooperation with the Director and/or Administrator, other teachers, members of the UHP Board, and all families of the school to provide a stimulating and safe environment for the children.

Experience teaching in a City of Madison accredited preschool program is highly valued, as it demonstrates a commitment to play-based, developmentally appropriate education.


Benefits
  • PAID HOLIDAYS

    Paid vacation days for teacher shall include the following:

    Labor Day

    Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the Friday after Thanksgiving

    Martin Luther King Day


    SICK DAYS

    Teacher shall be allowed without deduction in the agreed fee, twelve (12) sick days.


    BONUS

    If enrollment is at maximum teacher will be paid a bonus at the end of the fall and the spring semesters.


    INSERVICE

    Within the salary as specified in this agreement, is included the following paid in-service time:

    1. Thirteen and a half (13.5) hours of staff meeting time
    2. Two (2) days (3.5 hours/day) for teacher to attend state and regional conferences as described on attached benefits.
    3. Each semester, one 2-hour planning/in-service to be held during set-up/close-down weeks.

    CONTINUING EDUCATION

    UHP will pay up to a maximum of half of $100.00 a year per staff member, toward teacher’s continuing professional education as approved by the Board of Directors.


    INSURANCE/RETIREMENT

    Healthcare.gov is an insurance marketplace for your own coverage.


    Insurance/Retirement Benefits: Each employee will receive $50 per month to put toward their own insurance and/or retirement account.

    UHP will pay $40 per month toward employee phone.


    CHILDCARE BENEFIT

    All teacher children receive 50% tuition. This benefit starts after teacher passes probationary period.
