Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Daily Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and supervision in the regular teacher's absence, fostering a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment. Substitute teachers maintain instructional continuity, implement lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, and support students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. Successful substitutes demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, sound judgment, and a commitment to Westminster's mission and values.
Supervisor: Division Head
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Status: Part-time, Temporary, As needed
Hours of Work: Hours are scheduled on an as-needed basis and generally follow the instructional day for the assigned division.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience
  • Previous classroom or youth development experience preferred.

  • Effective classroom management skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Classroom Management
  • Delivers instruction in accordance with lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Maintains a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
  • Encourages student engagement and supports positive behavior expectations.
  • Uses instructional technology and classroom resources effectively.
  • Supervises students throughout the instructional day, including transitions and other assigned duties.
  • Communicates relevant information regarding the school day to the regular classroom teacher.
  • Follows School policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, communicate effectively, supervise students, and move throughout classrooms and campus buildings. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds and participate in moderate physical activity indoors and outdoors. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to become certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid is required.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions and frequently walks on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
