Tax Analyst
Location: Remote
About the role:
We're building the future of tax software by leveraging AI to solve a massive problem: the tax industry is stuck with outdated legacy systems, while tax code complexity and CPA shortages continue to rise. This is a unique opportunity to build a truly innovative product from the ground up. The market is ripe for a better product, and recent AI advances have allowed us to build a better version of what exists. This means we can spend our time making our product as delightful as possible.
For this position, we're seeking a knowledgeable and experienced candidate to join our team of Tax Analysts, supporting the development team and ensuring the accuracy of tax software compliance, focusing on federal and state/local returns. This person will be essential in developing and improving AI-driven Tax Preparation tools for Tax professionals. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing federal and state tax returns with broad expertise or working in the tax software industry. This individual will also be able to design and execute detailed test scenarios to ensure accurate handling of complex calculations and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tax Expertise:
• Create and maintain test returns for complex federal or state tax returns to ensure compliance with IRS regulations
• Stay current on federal and state legislative updates affecting taxation and reporting
2. Test Scenario Development:
• Design, document, and execute test scenarios to validate all aspects federal and state calculations and ensure accurate software functionality
• Address all possible complexities that can be present in federal and state tax law
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure that test scenarios reflect real-world tax preparation challenges
3. Quality Assurance:
• Perform detailed validations of software outputs against manual calculations
• Identify and resolve discrepancies, working closely with software developers • Recommend enhancements to improve the accuracy and usability of the tax software
4. Collaboration and Documentation:
• Document test cases, calculation logic, and results to support development and QA processes
• Assist in user troubleshooting and support for federal and state calculations
Qualifications:
• Experience:
• Experience with one or more of these forms - 1065, 1120, 1120S, 1040, 1041, 990 - with a focus on Business Return Prep
• Familiarity with CCH Axcess, GoSystem RS, ONESOURCE, Corptax, UltraTax, Lacerte, other comparable software packages
• Multiple years of experience in the tax software industry, return development, and QA.
• Familiarity with LLMs and modern AI tools
• Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail
• Proficiency with tax software tools with strong analysis and testing abilities
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams
