Appraiser I:$24.37 - $29.62 Hourly/$1,949.60 - $2,369.60 Biweekly
Appraiser II:$26.90 - $32.69 Hourly/$2,152.00 - $2,615.20 Biweekly
Senior Appraiser:$29.69 - $36.09 Hourly/$2,375.20 - $2,887.20 Biweekly
Appraiser I: Learns real property appraisal practices and techniques and performs routine office and field duties involved in the appraisal of real and/or personal properties. Performs related work as required.
Appraiser II and Senior Appraiser: Researches market conditions and performs standard appraisals of taxable commercial, industrial, rural, residential, timber, agricultural and/or personal property and fixtures to determine fair and equitable values for taxation purposes. Performs related professional work as required.
Examples of DutiesAppraiser I:- Learns to conduct routine appraisals of taxable real and personal property and fixtures in the County.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance from various agencies and taxpayers; confers with property owners to discuss appraisals as needed
- Prepares and submits audit reports and other reports as required.
Appraiser II: In addition to the duties listed above:
- Compiles and organizes case documentation for presentation at appeal hearings; appears at hearings to justify appraisals.
- Determines if appropriate building and Environmental Health Department permits have been issued for assigned properties.
Senior Appraiser: In addition to the duties listed above:
- Conducts complex appraisals of taxable commercial, industrial, rural, residential, timber, agricultural and/or personal property and fixtures in the County.
- Determines values for restricted properties as assigned.
- Assists in training new department personnel as assigned.

Education, Experience & LicensesAny combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as outlined in the State of California Board of Equalization Property Tax Rule 283.
In addition to the above:
Appraiser II:- A minimum of two (2) years experience in a clerical or business office field; accounting, auditing, or property appraisal
Senior Appraiser:- Two (2) to four (4) years experience in a clerical or business office field; accounting, auditing, or property appraisal
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
License & Special Requirements:- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
In addition to the above:
Appraiser I/II:- Ability to acquire a valid certification as an Appraiser as outlined in the State of California Board of Equalization Property Tax Rule 283
Senior Appraiser: - Requires a valid Appraiser Certificate (SBE) issued by the California State Board of Equalization; advanced Appraiser Certificate preferred
Recruitment InformationThe department is recruiting for one (1) current vacancy.In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future full-time vacancies for an Appraiser I/II/Senior, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.

SALARY:- Annual salary step increases based upon satisfactory performance and completion of one year of employment (Step A to E).
HEALTH:- Approximately 80% of the premium for medical, dental, and vision plan is paid by the County (EPO Plan). The plan covers the employee and all eligible dependents at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
- Employee premiums are $234.54 per month as of January 1, 2025 and $266.97 as of January 1, 2026 for employee and all eligible dependents.
PAID LEAVES:- Benefits also include an annual paid leave plan of
- 96 hours of vacation (increases upon continuous years of service)
- 96 hours of sick leave
- 14 paid holidays plus one 8 hour personal holiday
LIFE INSURANCE:- Approximately 80% of the premium for a $30,000 life insurance plan for the employee is paid for by the County.
RETIREMENT:- A retirement plan through CalPERS.
- CalPERS Formulas:
- Classic member = 2% @ 55
- New Member = 2% @ 62
- A Deferred Compensation retirement plan option with a County match of up to a maximum of $60 per month.
