As part of the Waverly Business Services team, the Tax Advisor delivers sophisticated tax planning, tax preparation, and business services to high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and closely-held businesses. This role is critical in our holistic wealth management approach by collaborating with Wealth Advisors and Financial Planners to optimize clients' financial outcomes.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and a passion for serving others. A successful candidate will have the ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional team members, demonstrate critical attention to detail, exhibit a positive attitude, and possess willingness to learn. Organizational skills, resiliency and flexibility, and promptness are necessary in all tasks and responsibilities.
Tax Advisor Responsibilities:
  • Manage tax engagements, review, and sign individual, trust, estate, partnership, and corporate tax returns. Depending on the engagement, returns will either be reviewed and signed or prepared/verified for another Tax Advisor to review and sign.
  • Deliver proactive tax planning strategies tailored to high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and business owners.
  • Advise clients on tax implications of estate planning, gifting strategies, charitable giving, investment portfolios, and business succession planning.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, articulating complex tax concepts in clear, actionable terms.
  • Collaborate closely with Wealth Advisors, Financial Planners, and Investment Teams to deliver integrated financial solutions.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for client tax matters, building long-term, trust-based relationships.
  • Research complex tax issues and communicate findings clearly to clients and colleagues.
  • Prepare responses to tax authority inquiries and resolve tax notice issues.
  • Maintain and organize supporting documentation and workpapers in accordance with firm standards.
  • Train, supervise, and mentor Tax Assistants, Tax Accountants, and Senior Tax Accountants and contribute to professional development initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in tax legislation and financial planning trends.
  • Support client onboarding and firm growth by identifying opportunities for value-added services.
  • Manage business services engagements and review of services performed for closely-held business clients.
  • Provide business consulting services for closely-held business clients.
  • Assist Controller with client billing information needed. This may include preparation of or oversight of client invoicing for specified engagements.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • CPA or EA required.
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally in a public accounting, wealth management, or family office environment required.
  • Deep knowledge of individual, trust, estate, and business taxation.
  • Experience working with and tax planning for high-net-worth individuals, closely-held businesses, and/or multi-generational wealth clients.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and client-service orientation.
  • Proficiency with tax software and tax planning tools.
  • A consultative, solutions-driven mindset.

Preferred Attributes:
  • Strong understanding of estate planning, philanthropy, and generational wealth transfer.
  • Experience in working collaboratively across disciplines (tax, legal, investment advisory).

Overtime Requirements:
The Tax Advisor who is full-time and paid on a salary basis is required to work overtime during tax season and is eligible to earn comp time. Please refer to the Waverly Business Services Comp Time policy per the Employee Handbook. The required overtime hours will vary based on workload and may be up to 160 hours during tax season.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times

  • No travel is required.
