Job description

Talis Group, a Louisville Legal recruitment agency is working with a well respected Louisville, KY litigation law firm seeking a Paralegal to support its Medical Malpractice Defense group. The ideal candidate will have experience working in civil litigation, with a strong preference for medical malpractice or healthcare-related cases. This role requires medical record analysis, and litigation support skills.

This position is full time, on site with a full benefits package that includes health insurance, life insurance, vision, dental, 401k, paid time off and more. Hours can be either 37.5 hours a week or 40 hours a week. Flex time available (ask me what this is!).

Salary: $60,000-$65,000.

This is an ideal position for a civil defense paralegal who enjoys some autonomy with the backing of team players and resources when needed. Very little to no overtime is needed.

Highlighted Responsibilities:
  • Assist attorneys in the preparation, filing, and service of legal documents, including answers, motions, discovery, and pleadings in state and federal courts.
  • Manage case files from intake through trial, including organizing and indexing medical records and legal documentation.
  • Obtain, review, and summarize medical records and bills; prepare detailed chronologies and timelines.
  • Draft discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and correspondence.
  • Coordinate with expert witnesses including retention, scheduling, and document delivery.
  • Manage case calendars, track deadlines, and ensure compliance with court rules.
  • Conduct factual and legal research using Lexis, Westlaw, or similar tools.
  • Provide trial preparation support, including assembling exhibits, trial notebooks, and witness materials.
  • Communicate with clients, healthcare providers, co-counsel, and court personnel as needed.

Highlighted Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2–5 years of paralegal experience, preferably in medical malpractice or insurance defense or similar defense litigation.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting medical records and terminology.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and litigation support software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
