How does a mentor dentist balance clinical responsibilities with mentoring junior team members?

A Mentor Dentist often divides their time between direct patient care and providing guidance to less experienced dentists or dental students. This can involve scheduled mentoring sessions, case discussions, and real-time feedback during procedures. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong time management and communication skills, as well as a collaborative mindset. Many Mentor Dentists find that mentoring not only supports team development but also enhances their own clinical and leadership skills, paving the way for career advancement into educational or management roles.

What is a mentor dentist?

Mentor Dentists are experienced dental professionals who guide, support, and educate less experienced dentists or dental students. They provide practical advice, share clinical knowledge, and help mentees develop their skills and confidence in the dental field. Mentor Dentists often assist with career development, ethical decision-making, and navigating complex patient cases. Their role is essential in fostering professional growth and maintaining high standards within the dental profession.

What is the difference between Mentor Dentist vs Associate Dentist?

AspectMentor DentistAssociate Dentist

In summary, a Mentor Dentist typically has more experience and takes on a leadership role by guiding less experienced dentists, whereas an Associate Dentist focuses on providing dental care and gaining experience under supervision or as part of a team. Both roles are essential in dental practices, but they differ mainly in responsibilities and experience level.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mentor dentist?

To thrive as a Mentor Dentist, you need a DDS or DMD degree, active dental licensure, extensive clinical experience, and a solid understanding of current dental practices. Familiarity with dental management software, digital imaging systems, and continuing education certifications is often required. Exceptional communication, patience, and leadership are crucial soft skills for guiding and supporting less experienced dentists. These skills ensure effective knowledge transfer, foster professional growth, and maintain high standards of patient care within the dental team.

Job description

General Dentist | Private Practice | Daily Guarantee + Mentorship

Salary & Compensation

  • Daily Guarantee OR 33% of collections—whichever is greater.
  • Retention Bonus: $20,000 total sign-on/retention bonus (Structured as $5K at signing, $5K at 90 days, $5K at 12 months, and $5K at 24 months).
  • Relocation Assistance: Up to $2,500 reimbursement against receipts.
  • Continuing Education: $1,500/year CE stipend.

About Us

Confidence regained. Dentistry redefined. That's not just our tagline—it's how we practice, and it's why patients stay with us for decades.

We are an established, growing multi-location private practice in Western New York. We are currently expanding our team and seeking a passionate General Dentist for our office. Unlike corporate DSOs, we are doctor-owned, deeply rooted in our community, and committed to offering our associates a true stake in our future.

What You'll Get (The Practice Advantage)

We know the dental market is highly competitive, and we've built a compensation and support package designed to stand out:

  • Unmatched Earning Potential: Our 33% collection split stands well above the standard national production-split averages. You get the stability of a competitive daily guarantee with the massive upside of a highly productive practice.
  • True Mentorship, Built for New Grads: You will be paired with an assigned senior mentor dentist, featuring structured monthly case reviews and a dedicated CE stipend. You will never be left to figure things out alone in an operatory.
  • An Actual Path to Partnership: We don't use "ownership" as a vague talking point. We provide a formal partnership and equity review at months 24–36, giving you a tangible path to real practice ownership that corporate DSOs structurally cannot match.
  • Clinical Freedom & Support: Work with modern equipment, a highly trained clinical support staff, and an established patient base that already trusts our practice name.

What We Are Looking For

  • Active New York State Dental License (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Current DEA registration and ACLS certification.
  • New graduates are highly welcome! We specifically built our 6-month guarantee extension and mentorship framework to help new doctors confidently transition into high-production clinical environments.
  • A clinician who wants to practice dentistry the right way: no corporate upselling, no rushed pacing, and a genuine focus on building lasting relationships with patients.
