What does a dentist do?

A dentist is a medical professional who specializes in oral health. The main job of a dentist is to diagnose, analyze, and treat issues of the teeth and gums. This includes filling cavities, installing crowns, and examining x-rays for signs of problems. Dentists also promote preventative measures to prevent tooth decay and other conditions that are caused by poor habits.

What are the different careers in dentistry?

Dentistry offers various career paths including general dentists, orthodontists, periodontists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, endodontists, prosthodontists, pediatric dentists, and dental hygienists. These roles often require specialized training, certifications, and work in settings such as private practices, hospitals, or clinics, focusing on different aspects of oral health care.

What dentist job makes the most money?

Specialized dentist roles such as oral and maxillofacial surgeons tend to have the highest salaries among dental professions, often earning significantly more than general dentists. These positions require advanced surgical training and certification, and they typically work in hospital or surgical center settings. Salaries for these specialists can exceed $200,000 annually depending on experience and location.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a dentist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Dentist, you need a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, state licensure, and strong clinical skills in diagnosing and treating oral health issues. Familiarity with dental radiography, digital charting systems, and common dental tools is essential. Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help dentists build trust and effectively educate patients. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure patient safety, provide high-quality care, and maintain successful patient relationships.

While both dentists and dental hygienists work in dental care, dentists diagnose and treat dental issues, perform surgeries, and develop treatment plans. Dental hygienists primarily focus on preventive care, cleanings, and patient education. Both roles are essential in dental health, but they require different levels of education and responsibilities.

What are some typical challenges dentists face when managing their own practice?

Dentists who manage their own practices often encounter challenges related to balancing clinical responsibilities with business operations. This includes handling administrative tasks like scheduling, billing, and compliance with health regulations, in addition to providing quality patient care. Additionally, dentists must stay updated with new dental technologies and procedures, while also leading and motivating their team. Strong organizational and leadership skills are essential to ensure the practice runs smoothly and patients receive the best possible care.

Job description

General Dentist – Emergency Dentist

$650 Daily Guarantee (Averaged Over 2-Week Pay Period) + Profit Sharing / Equity Opportunity. North Druid Hills, Atlanta, GA.

About Us:

Emergency Dentist is a high-demand, fast-paced dental practice strategically located in North Druid Hills, Atlanta, serving patients who need urgent, same-day dental care. With extended hours, strong Google visibility, and a streamlined patient intake system, we consistently see a high volume of motivated patients who need immediate treatment—not just hygiene checks. We combine modern technology, efficient systems, and a growth-oriented culture to deliver excellent care while maximizing production. We're seeking a driven General Dentist who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment and wants to grow both clinically and financially.

Why This Role Stands Out
  • $650 Daily Guarantee Averaged Over a 2-Week Pay Period — Gain income stability as you get established.
  • Profit Sharing or Seller-Financed Equity — For the right candidate, we offer a real pathway to ownership without requiring upfront capital. Build equity as the practice continues to grow.
  • High-Volume Emergency Flow — You'll step into a schedule filled with patients seeking immediate treatment, offering strong earning potential from day one.
  • Modern Operatories & Tech — Digital X-rays, CBCT, surgical equipment, sedation capabilities, and more.
  • Entrepreneurial Culture — No corporate micromanagement—just clinical autonomy and the opportunity to shape the growth of the practice.
Ideal Candidate:
  • A licensed DDS or DMD in Georgia (or able to obtain one).
  • Confident with bread-and-butter dentistry and extractions; surgical, endo, or implant skills are a strong plus.
  • Thrives in a busy, production-focused environment with emergency cases and same-day treatment.
  • Entrepreneurially minded and excited about profit sharing or ownership pathways.
  • A strong communicator who can build patient trust quickly under urgent circumstances.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide urgent dental care with clinical autonomy and efficiency.
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of emergency cases—often same-day.
  • Collaborate with a strong support team to deliver fast, compassionate care.
  • Help shape the clinical protocols and growth of a rapidly expanding emergency-focused practice.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • $650 Daily Guarantee Averaged Over a 2-Week Pay Period.
  • Percentage of Collections with Profit Sharing or Equity Path for the right candidate.
  • High daily production potential due to emergency-focused flow.
  • Flexible scheduling options.
  • A growth-minded, supportive work culture with no corporate red tape.

Base Pay Guarantee Explanation:

We offer a $650/day base pay guarantee, averaged over each 2-week pay period. For example, if you work 10 days in a pay period, your guaranteed minimum would be $6,500 total (10 days × $650/day). If your production-based pay exceeds this amount, you receive the higher amount. If it's lower, the guarantee ensures you still receive $6,500 for that period. This structure ensures income stability while allowing unlimited upside through production.
