What is a talent agency?

Talent agencies are organizations that represent and promote artists, performers, athletes, or other professionals to help them find work and advance their careers. They act as intermediaries between clients and potential employers, negotiating contracts and securing auditions or roles. Talent agencies often specialize in areas such as acting, modeling, music, or sports, and use their industry connections to match talent with appropriate opportunities. Their services can include career management, contract negotiation, and industry guidance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a talent agency role?

To thrive in a talent agency role, you need strong negotiation, networking, and client management skills, often backed by a degree in communications, business, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-specific CRM software, contract management tools, and digital marketing platforms is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal communication, resilience, and the ability to build trust set top professionals apart. These skills are essential for effectively representing talent, securing opportunities, and maintaining long-term industry relationships.

What are some common challenges talent agents face when representing clients in the entertainment industry?

Talent agents often encounter challenges such as fierce competition for high-profile roles, keeping up with rapidly changing industry trends, and negotiating favorable contracts for their clients. They must also manage client expectations, maintain strong industry relationships, and balance the needs of multiple clients simultaneously. Success in this role requires resilience, adaptability, and excellent communication skills to navigate these challenges while advocating effectively for clients.

Job description

What Youโ€™ll Do

Epic is seeking a Partnerships Director to lead, grow, and execute key partnerships across the sports industry and talent for our firstโ€‘party games. This role will lead the sourcing, development, and execution of interactive IP integrations with top global sports elementsโ€”including athletes, teams, leagues, and sporting momentsโ€”while also supporting cultural efforts with brands and talent. The position blends business development, creative dealโ€‘making, and product collaboration to bring authentic sports experiences to life across Epicโ€™s ecosystem.

In this role, you will
  • Lead dayโ€‘toโ€‘day engagement with external partners to ensure all campaign elements reflect both partner objectives and Epicโ€™s brand and legal standards.
  • Act as Epicโ€™s external face within the sports industry, building relationships with leagues, talent agencies, athletes, and brand partners, and representing Epic at major industry events and summits.
  • Partner closely with Product and Consumer teams so partnership initiatives align with Epicโ€™s broader player, product, and business objectives, influencing product strategy and measurable commercial outcomes.
  • Collaborate with development and creative teams to identify, pitch, and translate sports partnership ideas into compelling gameplay offerings across titles like Fortnite and Rocket League.
  • Direct, source, and negotiate new sports partnerships while managing inbound and outbound licensing opportunities across sports and entertainment.
  • Manage endโ€‘toโ€‘end execution of partnership campaigns, coordinating with crossโ€‘functional teams to ensure timely delivery, asset management, goโ€‘toโ€‘market support, and streamlined partner communication.
  • Collaborate with Epic teams to identify, pitch, and onboard highโ€‘profile partnerships for Fortnite, from proposal and presentation through execution and launch.
What weโ€™re looking for
  • 8โ€“10+ years of experience in sports partnerships and talent dealโ€‘making, with a proven track record of closing and executing highโ€‘profile deals.
  • Deep understanding of the sports and talent landscapeโ€”including leagues, teams, talent, and agenciesโ€”and robust knowledge of digital consumer products and gaming culture. Must have led partnership marketing, product, or gaming campaign execution.
  • Existing relationships and eminence in the sports, music, and talent industry, with strong insight into creatively positioning and storytelling for these audiences.
  • Proven experience in taking product ideas from vision/pitch to execution, requiring a strategy background combined with business development, business affairs, and partnership execution.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask across projects while managing shifting priorities with senior crossโ€‘functional teams.
  • Strong judgment, delegation, critical thinking, problemโ€‘solving skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Experience building internal and external partnership overviews, goโ€‘toโ€‘market plans, decks, recaps, and other presentations preferred.
  • Proven history of demonstrated P&L fluency and understanding of the full marketing funnel and analytics involved in licensing activations.
  • Entrepreneurial selfโ€‘starter who represents Epic with credibility and momentum across partners and categories.
  • Comfortable with frequent travel (25โ€“40%) for meetings, events, and industry engagements.

This role is open to multiple locations across the US (including CA, NYC, & WA).
