Job description

Shift Leader
Hiring Immediately• Up to $22/hour• Full-Time & Part-Time
You know your way around a knife dicing, chopping, prepping without needing a refresher every shift. You've called "behind!" a hundred times without breaking stride. You've run a Friday night rush, kept your station clean, and walked out buzzing instead of wrecked. You've led a team through that same rush too called the shots, kept everyone moving, and made sure the whole restaurant ran the way it should. Food isn't just a job to you it's a craft. And hospitality isn't a corporate word you learned in training it's just how you treat people.
If that's you, welcome home. Velvet Taco is looking for a Shift Leader to run the line, run the floor, and lead the Tribe.
The Perks
  • Excellent pay
  • Paid Time Off starts accruing with your first paycheck
  • Health benefits offered for Full-Time and Part-Time Team Members
  • Commuter benefits
  • Laid-back uniform & cool swag

The Job
  • Runs the kitchen and the front of house like they're one room because at Velvet Taco, they are.
  • Owns the daily prep list top to bottom: signs off on every item and holds the line on specs and flavor profiles nothing sub-par leaves the kitchen.
  • Treats food safety as non-negotiable: line checks, shelf life, proper rotation, and a station that stays clean all shift long.
  • Reads a rush before it hits and gets the team ahead of it, not behind it.
  • Treats every guest like a regular, even on their first visit skilled at hearing out a concern and turning it into a win.
  • Handles the register side too: sets up POS drawers, processes comps and voids, and manages deposits with total accountability.
  • Leads by doing, not just telling jumps on any station, sets the pace, and expects the same urgency from the team.
  • Coaches in the moment, de-escalates beef between teammates, and makes sure everyone feels heard.
  • Backs up management on inventory and keeps the back of house as tight as the front.
  • Models safety for the whole team: cut gloves on, floors clean and dry, walkways clear.
  • Embraces feedback, is eager to learn, and takes accountability for their actions.

Who We Are
Velvet Taco is a temple to the liberated taco. We're a one-of-a-kind taco concept serving a chef-driven menu in a unique, funky fast-casual setting. Founded on the idea that tacos don't have to be tied to Tex-Mex and can be made with the same care and quality ingredients as fine dining, Velvet Taco is where "anything goes" meets the art of the possible.
Some cool things about us: we use only the freshest ingredients on a menu that explores the edge of multicultural boundaries, taking the taco to a whole new liberated level. We slow-roast our chicken and corn, use plenty of booze in our margaritas, and make everything from scratch which means our food actually tastes awesome. Our tacos may not change the world, but we think they're pretty freakin' great. The best part? Our kick-ass Tribe is at the center of it all.
At Velvet Taco, we celebrate individuality. We are an equal opportunity employer and select and retain Team Members and Managers based on their job-related qualifications, regardless of race, color, creed, sex, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or medical condition.
