How much do tableau developer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for tableau developer in Oregon is $59.46, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $49.04 and $70.14 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How much do Tableau developers make?

Tableau developers typically earn a median annual salary ranging from $70,000 to $110,000, depending on experience, location, and industry. Professionals with advanced skills in data visualization, SQL, and certifications may earn higher salaries, especially in competitive markets.

Are Tableau developers in demand?

Tableau developers are in high demand due to the increasing need for data visualization and business intelligence solutions across industries. Organizations seek professionals skilled in Tableau, data analysis, and dashboard creation to support data-driven decision-making, leading to strong job growth and competitive salaries in this field.

What are Tableau Developers?

Tableau Developers are professionals who specialize in creating, managing, and optimizing data visualizations using Tableau software. They work with data sources to design interactive dashboards and reports that help organizations analyze and interpret complex data. Tableau Developers often collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs and ensure that data insights are accessible, actionable, and visually compelling.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Tableau Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tableau Developer, you need strong skills in data analysis, visualization, and proficiency with SQL, often supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Familiarity with Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server, and certification such as Tableau Desktop Specialist are commonly required, along with experience in data warehousing and ETL processes. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you translate business requirements into actionable, insightful dashboards. These skills ensure the delivery of meaningful, accurate visualizations that drive data-informed decision-making in organizations.

What Does a Tableau Developer Do?

Tableau software collects and translates large amounts of data into easy-to-read, interactive platforms. These platforms enable businesses to analyze and interpret results from various aspects of their company. Tableau developers are specialized programmers who create tailored reports that assist companies in meeting their goals. These programmers understand the importance of the ETL (extract, transform, load) process of transferring data from the primary source to a new location and know how to organize and use that data in productive ways.

Do I need coding for Tableau?

Tableau Developers typically do not need extensive coding skills, as Tableau is a visual analytics tool that emphasizes drag-and-drop functionality. However, knowledge of scripting languages like SQL or Tableau's calculated fields can enhance data manipulation and customization. Basic understanding of data structures and database concepts is also beneficial for more advanced work.

What are some common challenges Tableau Developers face when working with large datasets, and how can they address them?

Tableau Developers often encounter performance issues when visualizing large datasets, such as slow dashboard loading times and laggy interactivity. To address these challenges, developers can optimize data extracts, use efficient calculations, and limit the number of visualizations on a single dashboard. Collaborating closely with data engineers to ensure proper data modeling and leveraging Tableau's built-in performance optimization tools are also key strategies. Staying proactive about these challenges helps deliver fast, interactive, and insightful dashboards to stakeholders.

Is Tableau worth learning in 2026?

Tableau remains a valuable skill for Tableau Developers in 2026 due to its widespread use in data visualization and business intelligence. Learning Tableau can enhance job prospects, especially when combined with knowledge of SQL and data modeling. Staying updated with new features and certifications can further improve career opportunities.

What is the difference between Tableau Developer vs Data Analyst?

AspectTableau DeveloperData Analyst
Primary FocusDesigning and developing Tableau dashboards and visualizationsAnalyzing data sets to identify trends and insights
Skills & CertificationsProficiency in Tableau, SQL, data modeling, and visualization toolsStrong Excel, SQL, statistical analysis, and data interpretation skills
Work EnvironmentOften part of BI or data teams, working closely with developers and business usersCollaborates across departments to interpret data and support decision-making
Industry UsageCommon in finance, healthcare, retail, and tech sectorsWidely used across industries for data-driven insights

While both roles involve working with data, Tableau Developers focus on creating visual dashboards using Tableau, whereas Data Analysts analyze data to generate insights. The roles often overlap, but their core responsibilities differ in emphasis on visualization versus analysis.

Job description

The Connectors team is the bridge between ClickHouse and the entire data ecosystem. We build and maintain the connectors that make ClickHouse accessible to millions of developers and data practitioners worldwide. Our work spans from low-level database integrations to high-level data visualization plugins, ensuring that ClickHouse seamlessly integrates with the tools our users already know and love.

We're responsible for the official data connectors (Kafka, dbt, Spark, Flink, Beam, Fivetran), and integrations with leading visualization platforms (Grafana, Tableau, Power BI, Metabase).

What will you do?

As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in JVM-based frameworks, you'll serve as a core contributor, owning and maintaining critical parts of ClickHouse's Data engineering ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of high-performance database engineering and developer experience, where you'll craft tools that enable Data Engineers to harness ClickHouse's incredible speed and scale.

You'll own the full lifecycle of data framework integrations - from the core database driver that handles billions of records per second, to SDKs and connectors that make ClickHouse feel native in JVM-based applications. This isn't just about writing code; you're building the foundation that thousands of Data engineers rely on for their most critical data workloads.

Your work will directly impact how companies process massive datasets, from real-time analytics platforms ingesting millions of events per second to observability systems monitoring global infrastructure. You'll collaborate closely with the open-source community, internal teams, and enterprise users to ensure our JVM integrations set the standard for performance, reliability, and developer experience.

About you:
  • 6+ years of software development experience focusing on building and delivering high-quality, data-intensive solutions.
  • Proven experience with the internals of streaming or data integration frameworks, with strong preference for Apache Kafka (or similar pub/sub systems), Kafka Connect, Apache Flink or Apache Beam.
  • Experience developing or extending connectors, sinks, or sources for at least one streaming processing framework such as Apache Flink, Beam, or Kafka Connect, with preference for experience building or maintaining production-grade streaming connectors.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar distributed messaging systems (e.g., Pulsar, Kinesis), including topic design, consumer groups, and performance tuning.
  • Strong understanding of database fundamentals: SQL, data modeling, query optimization, and familiarity with OLAP/analytical databases.
A track record of building scalable data integration systems (beyond simple ETL jobs)
  • Strong proficiency in Java and the JVM ecosystem, including deep knowledge of memory management, garbage collection tuning, and performance profiling.
  • Solid experience with concurrent programming in Java, including threads, executors, and reactive or asynchronous patterns.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively within the team and across engineering functions.
  • Understanding of JDBC, network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP), and techniques for optimizing data throughput over the wire.
  • Passion for open-source development.
Bonus points for:
  • Prior contributions to open-source projects: actively engaging with the OSS community, advocating for users, and influencing the evolution of the core system through your contributions - big advantage.
  • Familiarity with ClickHouse or similar high-performance data platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Python, especially in data engineering contexts (e.g., Pandas, PySpark, Airflow), and ability to contribute to Python tooling when needed.
