Job description

Title: Operations & Maintenance Engineer Supervisor

Department/ Location: Facilities/Principia College

Position Type: Full-time, 12-month

Summary

The Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Engineer Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire, and safety (MEPFS) systems and equipment within campus buildings. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, this position ensures the effective execution of preventive maintenance tasks, supervises engineering staff, and ensures a prompt response to service needs to maintain the reliability of all building systems.

Primary Responsibilities

Supervision, Leadership, & Coordination

  • Supervise in-house MEP engineers to maintain building systems, ensuring effective communication and leadership for cohesive teamwork.
  • Offer regular feedback and development opportunities to support a high-performing, inclusive team.
  • Coordinate with in-house trades, other campus departments, and external contractors to streamline maintenance and minimize disruptions.
  • Periodically support the Chief Engineer and other Facilities personnel on capital renewal projects.
  • Communicate professionally to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Proficiency with building automation systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Associate degree, military technical training, or certifications in related fields.
  • Excavating experience with underground utilities.

Maintenance Program & System Management

  • Capable of handling MEPFS service calls and tickets, and troubleshooting issues independently or with a team.
  • Develop and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and longevity.
  • Manage and coordinate fire detection and suppression systems with in-house crew and contractors.
  • Monitor maintenance metrics and system performance data using software platforms to drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee Work Order management, scheduled maintenance shutdowns, and emergency maintenance activities to ensure minimal disruption to campus operations.
  • Participate in emergency response and provide after-hours support as needed for urgent maintenance issues.
  • Use the Building Automation System (BAS) to manage campus heating and cooling setpoints for comfort and energy efficiency.

Financial & Resource Oversight

  • Recommend expenditures to Chief Engineer on MEP operational budgets, utilizing Argos for financial oversight.
  • Promote energy management and sustainability initiatives through efficient system operation and resource conservation.
  • Keep accurate operational logs, documentation, and compliance records for maintenance, regulatory, and safety standards.
  • Ensure safety compliance and provide training on workplace safety procedures.

Special Requirements

  • At least 5 years of journeyman-level experience with mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems.
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) required.
  • 10-hr OSHA training, 30-hr preferred
  • Must be available to respond to emergencies after hours or on weekends.

  • At least five years of experience in the mechanics trade.
  • Must be willing to accept further training.
  • CDL License preferred

We offer a competitive starting hourly range for this position: $37.01-$41.64 hourly, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
