Job description

LTS is seeking an experienced Integration Architect to support a major AI-powered modernization initiative within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health portfolio.

This role will support enterprise integration and interoperability efforts tied to modernization of legacy healthcare systems, including VistA/MUMPS-based applications, enterprise health platforms, and next-generation clinical and operational systems.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience designing and implementing enterprise integration solutions across complex healthcare and federal IT environments. This individual will play a critical role in enabling secure, scalable, and interoperable data exchange between legacy and modernized platforms while supporting the VA's broader digital transformation objectives.

What You'll Do:
Lead the design and implementation of enterprise integration architecture supporting VA modernization initiatives.
Develop integration strategies connecting legacy VistA/MUMPS systems with modern cloud-based and enterprise applications.
Critically evaluate AI-generated interface maps, dependency diagrams, data flow analyses, and business rules extractions for accuracy and completeness against actual VistA data structures and integration patterns, identifying gaps or errors before outputs are used in integration design.
Architect APIs, middleware, messaging, and data exchange solutions across enterprise healthcare systems.
Support interoperability initiatives utilizing healthcare standards including HL7, FHIR, and RESTful APIs.
Design scalable integration frameworks supporting real-time and batch processing requirements.
Collaborate with infrastructure, cybersecurity, application development, data, and DevSecOps teams to ensure seamless system integration.
Define integration patterns, standards, governance models, and best practices across the enterprise.
Support migration and modernization efforts involving legacy healthcare applications and enterprise data platforms.
Evaluate and recommend middleware, API management, and integration platform technologies.
Ensure integration solutions align with federal cybersecurity, Zero Trust, and compliance requirements.
Participate in technical architecture reviews, modernization planning sessions, and engineering assessments.
Develop technical documentation including interface control documents (ICDs), architecture diagrams, integration specifications, and implementation plans.
Troubleshoot complex integration issues and provide technical leadership throughout the system lifecycle.

What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of experience in enterprise integration engineering or architecture.
Experience supporting large-scale federal healthcare or enterprise modernization programs.
Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate AI-generated technical outputs-including interface specifications, data mappings, and dependency analyses-for accuracy, completeness, and correctness in the context of enterprise integration requirements, and to identify and resolve errors before those outputs drive design decisions.
Hands-on experience working with VistA or MUMPS-based interfaces, including direct knowledge of how data originates, is structured, and flows within VistA environments
Strong experience with API design, middleware technologies, and enterprise integration frameworks.
Experience implementing integrations using REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, and messaging technologies.
Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, CDA, and related frameworks.
Experience integrating legacy systems with modern cloud and enterprise platforms.
Knowledge of cloud integration architectures within AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments.
Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance within federal environments.
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Nice To Have:
Experience supporting VA healthcare systems including VistA, CPRS, or VA EHR modernization efforts.
Familiarity with MUMPS-based applications, VistA Fileman data structures, VistA data flows and interface definitions for technical accuracy.
Experience with integration platforms such as MuleSoft, Boomi, Red Hat Integration, IBM Integration Bus, or similar technologies.
Knowledge of event-driven architecture, microservices, and containerized environments.
Experience supporting DevSecOps and CI/CD integration pipelines.
Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture and federal cybersecurity frameworks including NIST and FedRAMP.
Experience with enterprise data integration, ETL, and master data management solutions.
Relevant certifications in cloud, integration, or enterprise architecture technologies preferred.

Why Join LTS?
At LTS, we support mission-driven programs that improve healthcare outcomes for Veterans nationwide. Our teams work at the forefront of federal healthcare modernization, helping agencies transform legacy systems into secure, scalable, and innovative digital solutions. We value collaboration, innovation, and integrity while providing employees opportunities to grow and make meaningful contributions to critical national missions.
