Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Overview

The Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard is seeking an experienced Controller to join our Finance leadership team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller leads financial operations including accounts payable, payroll, cash management, and general accounting and reporting.

The Controller is responsible for creating and maintaining financial policies and procedures to ensure effective internal controls, compliance with regulations, and implementation of best practices. Through successfully performing these responsibilities, the Controller supports the delivery of high-quality services and the mission of the organization.

This is a senior financial leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with progressive accounting and finance experience, demonstrated supervisory and management experience, and strong knowledge of payroll and financial operations. Hospital or healthcare experience and experience with not-for-profit accounting and reporting are preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, guidance, communication, performance assessments, and identify development opportunities to ensure direct reports are engaged and effective.

• Create and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure effective internal controls, compliance with regulations, and implementation of best practices.

• Oversee, monitor, and approve bank activity and provide cash forecasts.

• Oversee accounts payable processes and ensure invoices are processed accurately and timely.

Lead and oversee payroll function and related processes, including but not limited to the following:

  ◦ Oversee the biweekly time capture and import into ADP Workforce Now to ensure employees are paid in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and union contracts.

  ◦ Review and approve each payroll as processed by ADP to ensure biweekly payroll and off-cycle payrolls are processed correctly.

  ◦ Monitor and review tax deposits and related tax returns.

  ◦ Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure employee profiles, including tax withholding, are set up in accordance with laws, regulations, and union contracts.

  ◦ Serve as ADP Workforce Now and E Time System Administrator and collaborate with Human Resource Leadership to ensure the system is set up and maintained to support the Human Resource and Payroll functions in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and union contracts.

  ◦ Promote the continued development and utilization of ADP Technology to further enhance the payroll and Human Resource processes and employee experience.

• Oversee the accounting and reporting of all transactions including the review and support of journal entries, bank reconciliations, and other account analysis.

• Collaborate with the Director of Business Services to reconcile and record accounts receivable monthly, including the determination of bad debt and contractual allowance reserves.

• Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements and quarterly reporting to the Board and other stakeholders.

• Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring the preparation of financial statements is in accordance with U.S. GAAP and federal, state, and other required supplementary schedules and information.

• Coordination and preparation of Form 990 Tax Return, Medicaid Cost Report, and other reports as required.

• Manage awarded grants and beneficial interests in perpetual trust and ensure compliance with grantor requirements including preparation of reports.

• Partner and collaborate with other financial team members and leaders to support the financial goals and the operational and strategic goals of the organization.

• Support the financial monitoring and risk analysis related to unemployment insurance, liability insurance, and workers compensation.

• Collaborate with CFO in financing opportunities and maintaining bank relationships.

• Support the CFO and related financial organization in other duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required

• MBA and/or CPA preferred

Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance

• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and management experience

• Hospital or healthcare experience preferred

• Experience with not-for-profit accounting and reporting preferred

Work Environment

Must be able to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone and/or in person at normal volumes. Manual dexterity is required to enter data, take notes, and simultaneously document pertinent information. Lifting, maneuvering, and transporting files and materials up to 10 lbs. is required from time to time. Vision should be adequate to allow for focus adjustment to read charts, computer screens, forms, and other materials.

The Controller will interact with a wide variety of people on various issues and will work under significant deadlines associated with the position. Considerable time will be spent on the computer, requiring attention to detail and accuracy. The position may require extended periods of sitting in an office setting as well as standing, walking, and close contact with others. Knowledge of hospital health, infection control, ethics, and safety policies is essential.
