Controller Philadelphia, PA (Onsite) Salary: $160,000-$175,000 + Discretionary Bonus
LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established, mid-sized regional law firm to identify an experienced Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This organization has a long-standing history and a strong presence across the Mid-Atlantic, supporting a diverse client base across multiple industries.
This is a fully onsite position based in Philadelphia.
Position Overview
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance. This individual will partner closely with firm leadership to ensure financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and long-term profitability. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience within a law firm environment, with a strong foundation in partnership accounting and tax.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Reporting
  • Oversee general ledger activities, including month-end and year-end close processes
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls and accounting policies
  • Manage reconciliations across operating, trust, and escrow accounts
Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Planning
  • Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes
  • Monitor firm performance against financial goals and objectives
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Provide insights into profitability, utilization, realization, and cash flow
  • Build financial models to support strategic decision-making
Firm Performance & Profitability
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate and improve financial performance
  • Analyze billing, collections, and work-in-process (WIP)
  • Identify and implement process improvements to drive efficiency and margin expansion
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Oversee and optimize accounting and time & billing systems (Aderant preferred)
  • Evaluate system enhancements and reporting capabilities
  • Improve workflows and ensure data integrity across financial platforms
Tax, Audit & Compliance
  • Oversee partnership tax planning and reporting
  • Support annual audit processes and coordinate with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with all financial and regulatory requirements
Payroll & Cash Management
  • Oversee payroll processing (ADP preferred)
  • Monitor daily cash positions, banking activity, and credit facilities
  • Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning
Accounts Payable Oversight
  • Oversee AP operations, including vendor management and payment processing
Qualifications
Required Experience
  • Proven experience as a Controller within a law firm environment (LLP structure required)
  • Strong knowledge of partnership accounting and tax
  • Hands-on leadership experience managing accounting, billing, and AP functions
Technical Skills
  • Experience with Aderant strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling, advanced reporting)
  • Familiarity with ADP payroll systems preferred
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • CPA strongly preferred
