Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Companion Animal Surgery- Clinical or Tenure Track

We are seeking our next Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Companion Animal Surgery. We want you to join our Companion Animal Surgery team at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine! The LSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital has the most board-certified specialists under one roof in Louisiana. Our Companion Animal Surgery service aims to work closely with clients to offer them the highest quality surgical care possible. We provide state-of-the-art veterinary medicine and surgery, while instructing future veterinarians and veterinary surgeons.

At LSU, our surgeons enjoy a new Arthrex Synergy UHD4 imaging platform, 3-D printing, laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, new Hitachi fluoroscopic C-arm and radiographic system, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, interventional radiology, vessel-sealing devices, smoke evacuation, I-Loc system, AO/ASIF/Synthes plating system, and Bio Medtrix total hip replacement system

LSU has openings for clinical or tenure-track surgeons.

Opportunities exist for activity split between orthopedic/neurologic and soft tissue/oncology surgery or exclusively soft tissue or orthopedic surgery. This is a clinical or tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences with a concurrent appointment to the professional staff of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Clinical Track Position Requirements

70% - Participate in the Companion Animal Surgery Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and cooperate with other clinical faculty in clinical teaching and hospital practice; support the emergency service through provision or supervision of companion animal surgery.

30% - Scholarly activities to include teaching and collaborative research.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent and must have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) & must be eligible for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS).

Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent with 5 years of related research/teaching/clinical experience & Must have board certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and/or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS)

Full Professor: DVM or equivalent with 8 years of experience & must be board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and/or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS)

Minimum Certifications/Licenses:

Board certification or eligible to take ACVS-SA surgery Boards.

Tenure Track Position Requirements

50% - Participate in the Companion Animal Surgery Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and cooperate with other clinical faculty in clinical teaching and hospital practice; support the emergency service through provision or supervision of companion animal surgery.

Eligible to obtain a faculty license for the State of Louisiana.

Preferred Qualifications (all ranks & academic appointments):

Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Experience in clinical investigation and/or team research.

Special or Physical Qualifications (all ranks & academic appointments):

Required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Availability to work 8-10 hour shifts.

Per LSU PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.

This position is subject to oversight and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy. Requires working with or around areas with hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases.

Required to be capable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing, sitting or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach below and above shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), pull/push, grasp, kneel or sit on the floor, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.

Due to the nature of this position and/or responsibilities, this position is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with LSU PS 67.
