Description:
Position provides resiliency-based prevention education services within assigned elementary schools. Specialist provides services to classrooms, small groups, and individuals focused on self-regulation skills, coping skills and mindfulness practices, and works on identifying and developing a trauma informed response to student vulnerabilities. Specialist may provide coaching for teaching staff on creating trauma sensitive classrooms. Resiliency services include use of evidence based curriculum and creating additional content to support the needs of the students.

Position requires Bachelorโ€™s or Masterโ€™s degree in social work, psychology, education, sociology, or related field and/or equivalent of education and experience.

Synergyโ€™s School Based Integrated Services Program provides services to local school districts and charter schools. The objective of this program is to assist school staff in the implementation of a trauma sensitive and resiliency based school culture. Working with schools to recognize and address student vulnerabilities as they relate to trauma through classroom education, support, case management, clinical services, behavior support and faculty coaching. School based staff will model trauma informed care approaches to working with students, families, school systems, and communities in accordance with Synergy Services policies, procedures and philosophies. Staff for this program should be familiar with trauma informed practices and dynamics of school settings; have strong communication skills, work ethic, and organization skills; be self-motivated, flexible, reliable, and be able to work as a part of a team while also working independently.

Direct care staff within the SBIS program work a schedule to match a traditional school calendar, having 4 weeks off in summer, in addition to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, winter break and spring break. SBIS resiliency specialist will provide services during fall/spring semesters and summer school. Benefits are still available to SBIS employees and further details regarding pay schedule and time off will be discussed during the interview process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Direct Client Services
  • Provides prevention education, classroom and in-service consultation and training for children, youth, guardians, staff, and the community on resiliency based prevention topics and social emotional learning.
  • Follow approved evidence-based curricula with fidelity
  • Create lessons and collaborate with teachers and/or co-workers on prevention material.
  • Models trauma informed care approach to working with students, families, school systems, and communities in accordance with Synergy Services policies, procedures and philosophies
  • Provides professional development and consultation regarding trauma to school staff;
  • Assists with trauma-informed care implementation in the school setting;
  • Provides crisis management as needed;
  • Service Coordination
  • Provides lesson planning and coordinating with the needs of teachers and students, case management tasks when necessary and follow-up;
  • Participate on school implementation/care teams in an effort to synthesize relevant scientific theories and evidence and to translate them into coherent, user-friendly interventions and prevention strategies.
  • Provides support calls and networks with other agencies;
  • Writes reports or provides data as requested;
  • Participate in defining program outcomes and maintaining all necessary data to comply with grant related outcome measurement information.
  • Makes outside referrals for additional services as appropriate;
  • Maintains data entry with agency standards
  • Supervision and Training
  • Participates in peer supervision;
  • Participates in supervision with the Assistant Program Manager and/or Program Manager to discuss students, classrooms, consultation with school faculty and progress toward program goals, and create a plan for ways to mitigate vicarious trauma;
  • Revises and updates training materials as needed for school personnel, guardians, trainers and volunteers.
  • Research, read and keep up-to-date with regard to information relating to primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention, trauma informed care and other related topics.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum of Bachelorโ€™s degree in social work, psychology, family studies, sociology, education, or related field or combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to drive personal vehicle. Must possess the ability to type and work with computer software, including Windows, EXCEL, Word for Windows, Access, and PowerPoint.
