In this role, you will ensure the reliable operation of the Symitar core banking system that supports the credit union's daily operations and long-term strategic initiatives. You will be responsible for configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing the Symitar platform while working closely with internal teams and external vendors to implement upgrades, enhancements, and integrations.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, maintaining mission-critical systems, and ensuring that core banking technology operates securely, efficiently, and reliably.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Core System Administration
• Manage and administer the Symitar core banking system, including installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of system software and hardware components.
• Ensure system availability, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring and management.
• Perform regular system maintenance including data analysis, cleanup, and general system housekeeping.
• Manage user accounts and profiles, including resolving access issues and maintaining proper system permissions.
System Upgrades and Infrastructure Support
• Plan, coordinate, and execute upgrades, patches, and enhancements to Symitar software and associated hardware.
• Conduct testing and validation to ensure compatibility, functionality, and system stability following upgrades.
• Plan and execute annual failover testing between production and backup hosts, including associated applications.
System Performance and Incident Management
• Respond to system incidents and service requests according to established procedures and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Document incidents, root cause analysis, and resolution steps to support continuous improvement.
• Provide technical expertise in diagnosing and resolving complex Symitar system and application issues.
Integration and Technical Collaboration
• Support integrations between Symitar solutions and third-party applications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure systems operate effectively across the organization.
• Manage and support third-party system connections and integrations.
Documentation and Operational Support
• Develop and maintain documentation including troubleshooting procedures, knowledge base articles, and technical reference materials.
• Prepare audit responses related to Symitar and lead remediation efforts when necessary.
• Provide backup phone and technical support for the IT Service Desk when needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Recognized certifications or advanced technical degrees preferred.
• Experience administering the Symitar core processing platform, including system maintenance, user administration, and operational management.
• In-depth understanding of Symitar modules and the associated business applications that interact with the core system.
• Experience writing SQL queries, optimizing database performance, and managing relational data systems.
• Experience administering IBM AIX environments including system configuration, patching, and performance monitoring.
• Experience supporting the Synergy document management system including user access, plug-ins, workflows, and issue resolution.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while working independently and collaboratively.
• Knowledge of credit union operations and financial industry systems preferred.

The pay range for this position is listed above. Our pay ranges are designed to allow for candidates with various levels of experience and skill to be considered, and to allow room for growth to be achieved in a role over time. Generally, new hire salary offers fall within the minimum to midpoint of a pay range for many candidates. Any offer extended to a candidate will be based upon their individual combination of experience, knowledge, skills, and education as well as internal equity.
