Job description

Position Title: CDL Delivery Driver
Reports to: General Manager
Classification: Hourly
Department: Delivery
The successful candidate will be someone who is focused on safety and prides themselves in the condition of not just the cab of the truck, but the load and manner in which it is delivered. Our drivers are the last point of contact in a sale and the successful candidate will recognize they are part of the sales process and strive to ensure the last impression is a good impression. Most importantly, the successful candidate will recognize they are part of a team. Recognizing the need to help the yard or on a job site and being willing to do so is essential.
Purpose of Position: CDL drivers transport goods between locations using tractor trailers and heavy trucks. They often travel extensive distances to deliver their loads and must adhere to traffic and safety regulations while still making their deliveries on time
Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation).
  • Safely and efficiently operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with company policy, as well as federal and state regulations, in order to handle and deliver freight undamaged and on time.
  • Inspect delivery loads to determine that sales invoices and materials match.
  • Organize and secure loads.
  • Assist forklift operators when being loaded or unloaded.
  • Accurately complete shipping log, including destination, mileage, time out and time in, etc.
  • Deliver and unload materials to customer's satisfaction within company guidelines
  • Pick up materials from the customer's job site and ensure that the Return Credit Authorization is filled out completely and submitted.
  • Correct or bring to the attention of the Yard Foreman any unsafe vehicle condition or maintenance need.
  • Relay messages between customer and company accurately and professionally.
  • Maintains knowledge of proper identification of inventory items.
  • Wait on customers while truck is being loaded, unloaded, and during slow delivery periods.
  • Account for company funds when necessary (e.g. C.O.D.'s)
  • Assist in maintaining good housekeeping in yard and warehouse.
  • Maintain a clean truck.
  • Assist with cycle counts and inventory control as needed.
  • Immediately report all accidents, injuries, and incidents of damage to the Yard Foreman.
  • Informing clients and your Manager of potential delays.
  • Attends staff, departmental meetings, and safety and health training, as required, on time.
  • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy.
  • Observes and practices all safety procedures and policies.
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies procedures (e.g., safety glasses, earplugs, face shields, etc.) to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (Duties that are likely to be assigned to this person unless they prove unable to perform them after receiving training and/or accommodations that the company judges appropriate).
  • Ability to be alert, focused, and detail-oriented at all times.
  • Ability to drive safely, irrespective of the weather or time of day.
  • Must have experience operating similar vehicles for work purposes.
  • Comply with all road and transport rules
  • Demonstrates ability to follow specific instructions and directions.
  • Must be skilled at driving large vehicles.
  • Ability to successfully pass company-provided forklift operator training program and maintain "certification" through safe operation and following of procedures Complete vehicle and equipment inspection forms accurately and completely.
  • Must be comfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced team environment, as well as work alone.
  • Read, write and communicate in English effectively.
  • Comply with OSHA requirements and standards to wear all applicable PPE properly.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull, maximum lift - 100 lbs.; frequently lift/carry - up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to see within normal range of vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to hear running machinery.
  • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively.
  • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination.
  • Must regularly be able to reach overhead.
  • Must regularly be able to sit, squat, bend, twist, and stand.
  • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally.

Experience and Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Three months of experience operating forklifts or similar equipment.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
